It’s over, and a field of more than 300 duelists has come down to just sixteen. Matt Peddle, Marco Cesario, Steven Harris, Chris Pittao, Rob Cedar, the Bellido brothers, and more Day 2 alums have made it to the top tables yet again, including another consecutive Shonen Jump top from The Princess — can anything stop Cesar Gonzalez?
Of the Day 2 decks, twelve are familiar TeleDAD builds while four are more unique. Rob Cedar has made Day 2 with Lightsworn. Robbie Kohl has brought Gadgets to the Top 16 for the first time in memory, coupling them with classic accoutrements like Royal Oppression and Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer, along with a sided pair of Doomcaliber Knights. Calvin Tsang is in the Day 2 spotlight for the first time in years, and he’s back with a TeleDAD variant largely reminiscent of Diamond Dude Turbo, if it was built and mastered by a madman instead of Kris Perovic. Magical Mallet? Check. Dark Eruption? Check. This deck’s spell lineup is incredible. Finally, Manuel Gonzalez has brought Gladiator Beasts back to Day 2! A fluke, or the rebirth of a mighty archetype? We’ll find out tomorrow.
For now the tournament hall is closed, the competitors are getting some much-deserved rest, and testing for matchups tomorrow continues long into the night. Tomorrow at 9 AM EST, we’ll see the final rounds of this tournament play out!
