14-year old Nick Synodis used to be #1 in Arizona before moving to Europe, and his opponent David Baker was no slouch either, being a long-time player of the game. The two exchanged friendly banter as they shuffled up their deck for the first game of the match.
The dice roll commenced and Nick won, choosing to begin the round. The two players drew their opening hands and play commenced, Nick putting one card to each zone and passing. David replicated the play, and, when Nick got his turn, he put his Sangan in the graveyard to summon his Jinzo. He searched for Card Trooper and attacked David with the Jinzo, hitting Spirit Reaper. Play was passed, and David played Brain Control on Jinzo, attacking with his Reaper and the Machine to take Ring of Destruction from Nick's hand. David tributed the Jinzo for Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch, ditching a Mirror Force from Nick's hand. Ouch.
The game ended shortly; Nick had a Cyber Dragon, and, unfortunately for David, he also had the Call of the Haunted set for when David activated his Bottomless Trap Hole. With Jinzo and Cyber Dragon out, a Snatch Steal on David's Thestalos and his Card Trooper took some grand amount off of David's life and had the two players shuffling and siding for game 2. "That was quick," both players quipped. Indeed it was. Barely three paragraphs in and we're already on the second game!
David opened up the second game, playing his first turn with a bit of a smile, obviously pleased with what he saw. He activated Confiscation and took a Heavy Storm over Mirror Force and Brain Control, and then set one to each zone and passed. Nick summoned a Drillroid and put it in the bin as David responded to his attack with Widespread Ruin. Nick set a spell or trap and passed. David tributed his face down Sangan for Thestalos, a familiar play which knocked a Brain Control out of Nick's hand. He attacked headlong into a Mirror Force. "Easy read there," Nick's commented, and David chuckled; he still knew all of Nick's hand from his first turn Confiscation.
Nick summoned a Card Trooper and attacked after dropping three cards into the graveyard; David went down to 5100. Then David had a Brain Control for Card Trooper and put three cards in his graveyard. Then he summoned Thestalos, tributing the stolen monster; David was recycling moves from the last game. The Thestalos discarded a D. D. Warrior Lady and hit directly. Nick was having bad luck with his hand control. He tried to use Snatch Steal on his turn, but David responded with Ring of Destruction. The life points were falling rapidly for both players. He set a spell or trap and passed. David set one to each zone and passed, and Nick set a monster on his next turn. David used a Mystical Space Typhoon during the end phase and tributed for Zaborg the Thunder Monarch, taking out a face down Morphing Jar. 2400 was taken from Nick's life points, and play passed after a set spell or trap was nuked with Mystical Space Typhoon by Nick; apparently he also recycles.
Nick played his Smashing Ground to clear the field of Zaborg, and then smiled a little as he put down Mataza the Zapper and made the finishing strike . . . or rather, finishing strikes. The result of this environment-friendly match: Nick Synodis moves on with an undefeated record after a 2-0 victory over David Baker!
