Day 1 Wrap-Up
Jason Grabher-Meyer

Nine rounds have drawn to a close, and 380 duelists have been pared down to a final sixteen! There were a few surprises today, but the biggest one is that this format appears to have finally stabilized. This weekend there were no upsets and no unforeseen entries into the Top 16, at least as far as deck strategies are concerned. Save a pair of Mother Grizzly and a couple main decked copies of Electric Virus, Day 2 is a perfect snapshot of the dominant decks in this format.

Cody Miller, who was dealt an early round feature match by fate this morning, has captured the first seed place for tomorrow! This rising star overcame a game loss due to a minor error in his Fusion decklist, and moved on to score the highest-ranked 8-1 record here today. Big names in contention for the playoff rounds include Matt Peddle, Fili Luna, Jonathan Labounty, and Shawn Kuchta, the young up-and-comer from Team Nexus. With a variety of top decks in play for tomorrow, it’s truly anybody’s game, but Fili and Peddle are certainly at the top of the list after their repeated successes in this format.

Will a Shonen Jump regular win title gold tomorrow, or will a new star like Cody Miller arise from the masses to claim the ultimate glory? A laptop, Crush Cards, iPods, and videogame systems are all on the line, but the one prize everybody wants remains the same from tournament to tournament: the privilege of being Champion. By the end of the weekend we’ll have a brand new Shonen Jump Champ, and you’ll have to join us tomorrow morning to see who it’ll be!
