Montreal Shonen Jump TCG Championship Series Tournament
Metagame Staff

The big story of the weekend is definitely the dominance of burn decks throughout the event. Four out of the Top 16 decks were burn decks, and one of them, Jasmin Gauthier’s Chain burn deck made it to the finals! However, despite stellar playing all weekend, Jasmin wasn’t able to take home the title. Cesar Gonzalez, running a purist Monarch deck, was the eventual winner, overcoming Daniel Bomgbelle, Chris Simoes, and Jonathan Chauvin on his way to the finals, where a critical mistake from Jasmin threw the game his way.

It’s been a wild weekend, and if you missed it you can catch up on all the action right here at Metagame.com. Congratulations to Cesar Gonzalez, Shonen Jump Montreal Champion!

Day 2
Jasmin Gauthier and Cesar Gonzalez were both guaranteed a Crush Card Virus at this point, but only one of them could take home the title.
Jasmin Gauthier is about to face his toughest challenge of the day, pitting his new Chain burn deck against Shonen Jump Chicago Champion Dale Bellido and his Monarchs.
Kris Perovic is still hunting for his first Championship while Dale is looking to add another trophy to his wall.
Jasmin Gauthier’s made it to Top 16 with a new age Chain burn deck, and is now facing off against Christian Fedun and his Stratos-powered toolbox deck.
You might recognize Michael Sherkin as the player piloting a monster-less 4-Turn burn deck from the final feature of Day 1.
Day 1
Out of all the burn decks I’ve seen so far, there’s one that I found quite interesting, and it’s currently very nearly a lock on Day 2.
Both duelists are two rounds away from making Day 2, and the pressure is on.
Sometimes the key play in a game is the play that isn’t made or is made improperly.
Both duelists are quite accomplished and are looking to further their success today.
Who would have thought in such a combo oriented environment that a Cyberdark deck would be 3-0?
I’m rather excited about Yannick Dubeau’s deck. He’s brought a unique Cyberdark build to the table today and is undefeated after two rounds.
Marc Glass is, of course, your SJC Columbus champion, while just one Jump previously Kris made second place in Houston.
Today, Daniel is playing a Diamond Dude Turbo build while Kyle has elected to bring a Lazaro-inspired Monarch deck.
We have yet to begin here in Montreal, which makes this an ideal time to get all my predictions and prognostications out of the way.
