Adrian Sado from Toronto, Canada is playing against local player Daniel Galacgac. Adrian was just on vacation here in the islands for a week and happened to have his cards with him. How convenient! He gets to play a lot in Canada, and was glad to have a chance to test his skills against a bigger field at such a prestigious event.
Daniel only eyed the two Light of Destruction packs that the Tournament Organizer had added to the table for the winner of the match. Anxious to get their game on, the players began.
Game 1
Adrian also won the die roll, and opted to play first. He set 1 monster, 2 back row cards, and passed.
Daniel played Heavy Storm, which Adrian negated with Solemn Judgment, going to 4000! Daniel drew with a pair of Solar Recharge spell cards, wondering what Adrian was trying to protect! He then played Foolish Burial, special summoning Wulf to the field. Adrian then used his other set card, Bottomless Trap Hole, to remove Wulf, Lightsworn Beast from play. Daniel summoned Ehren, Lightsworn Monk, and attacked Adrian’s set monster, returning it to his deck. He set one back row card and passed.
Adrian inspected Daniel’s already-thick graveyard, then summoned Gladiator Beast Laquari, which attacked and destroyed Ehren, dropping Daniel to 7800, then switched it out for Bestiari, which Daniel destroyed with Torrential Tribute. Adrian brought a Wulf from Daniel’s graveyard into play with Monster Reborn and passed the turn.
Daniel set one monster and ended the turn.
Adrian summoned Bestiari from his hand, then used Test Tiger to get Gladiator Beast Darius and jumped into his Fusion deck for Gladiator Beast Gyzarus, destroying Daniel’s cards. The attack brought Daniel to 3300. Gyzarus then switched out for two copies of Laquari, and Adrian passed the turn. He knew he was getting close to overextending, and asked, “Judgment Dragon?”
Yes. Daniel summoned Judgment Dragon on his turn and destroyed the field, attacking for 3000. Adrian drew, and having no help and only 1000 life points, decided to scoop for game 2.
Game 2
Adrian chose to play first. He set 2 back row cards, and passed the turn.
Daniel summoned Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, who destroyed one of Adrian’s set cards while the other, a Bottomless, removed her from play.
He set 1 back row card, and passed.
Adrian summoned Elemental Hero Prisma, attacked, set one back row, and ended his turn.
Daniel summoned Ehren, and Adrian activated his Light-Imprisoning Mirror. “It stops your guy, too,” Daniel noted.
“I’m not worried about that right now,” Adrian replied.
Prisma attacked, destroying Ehren and brining Daniel to 6200. Daniel set a monster and ended his turn.
Adrian summoned Elemental Hero Stratos, searching for a second copy of Prisma, and then attacked Daniel, who was then at 4400.
Daniel set a monster, played Deck Lockdown, and passed. Adrian attacked with both of his monsters, destroying Daniel’s set monster, a Necro Gardna, and bringing him to 2700. Adrian destroyed Daniel’s set Solemn with Mystical Space Typhoon during Daniel’s end phase, and then on his turn, attacked the set monster, a D.D. Crow, and Daniel directly, putting his opponent at 1000 life points. Daniel drew and, seeing no outs, conceded to start game 3.
Game 3
Daniel chose to go first, and the game began in silence. Lyla was summoned and Mirror Force was set. Adrian replied on his turn with Stratos, searching for Prisma, and attacking into Daniel’s set Mirror Force.
Daniel used Lyla to destroy Adrian’s Solemn Judgment, then tributed her for Celestia, Lightsworn Angel. Adrian chained Torrential Tribute, destroying her. Daniel passed with no card in play.
Adrian summoned Laquari and attacked, deciding not to switch it out at the end of combat. He set one back row card and passed the turn.
Daniel then set one monster, Sangan, and ended his turn.
Adrian used Gladiator Proving Ground to get Bestiari, and then used it and Laquari to get Gyzarus from his Fusion deck, destroying Daniel’s Sangan. Daniel pulled a Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner from his deck with Sangan’s effect. He was already at 3800, and a bit concerned.
Adrian then brought out two copies of Laquari with Gyzarus and passed the turn.
Daniel played the Lumina from his hand, and then used Monster Reincarnation to recover Lyla. He discarded Necro Gardna to special summon Lyla, using Lumina’s effect, from his graveyard, and used her to target Adrian’s set back row card. Adrian chained it, a Book of Moon, to turn Lumina face down in response. Daniel passed the turn then, filling his graveyard even more with Lightsworn monsters.
Adrian attacked Lyla with a Laquari, but Necro Gardna negated it. The other attacking Laquari destroyed Daniel’s face-down Lumina. Leaving the Laquaris in play, Adrian set a monster and passed.
Daniel played Solar Recharge, and then summoned Celestia destroying the set monster, a Morphing Jar, and one Laquari, then attacked the other, bringing Adrian to 7800.
Adrian summoned Prisma, using its effect to send Bestiari to the graveyard. His Premature Burial targeted Laquari, hoping for a comeback, but Daniel’s D.D. Crow removed it in response. Adrian passed with no cards in play.
Daniel summoned Jain, Lightsworn Paladin on his turn, and then attacked with both, bringing Adrian to 4300.
Adrian played Gladiator Beast Darius and set one back row card, then passed. Daniel attacked Darius with Jain, and then attacked directly with Celestia, putting Adrian at 1600.
Adrian set one monster and ended his turn, looking resigned.
Daniel, ready for the kill, counted his cards carefully. He then played Solar Recharge, emptying his deck! With zero cards remaining in his deck, he summoned Judgment Dragon, but Adrian only had a face-down D.D. Crow and a Dust Tornado, which he revealed in defeat.
“Win the rest of your rounds,” Adrian said, smiling, looking for good tiebreakers. David smiled back, “I’m trying!”
