Finals: Andrew Ferdeloa vs. John Jansen
Jason Grabher-Meyer

Game One

Jansen won the die roll, and opened with Confiscation to send Ferdeloa’s Scapegoat to the graveyard. He set a spell or trap and passed.

Aggressive to the nines, Ferdeloa attacked with a Sinister Serpent and passed. He set a spell or trap. Jansen had nothing on the succeeding turn as well, and Serpent pinged him for another 300 damage. It happened a third time on the next turn.

“I can’t believe I’m doing this!” exclaimed Ferdeloa. Turn 4 rolled around and Jansen still had nothing. He set a spell or trap. Ferdeloa went to attack again, and finally missed as Jansen flipped Scapegoat, and Ferdeola used Enemy Controller to turn one of them to attack position. Building some momentum, Jansen summoned Injection Fairy Lily and attacked the Serpent with it for 3100 damage.

Ferdeloa played Heavy Storm to gain a bit of card advantage, and then summoned Magical Scientist. He paid 2000 life points for a Dark Blade the Dragon Knight and Dark Flare Knight. Dark Flare Knight attacked into Lily, and with the life point totals sitting at 4100 to 2900, Jansen made the mistake of pumping. It left him open, as the Enemy Controller that had flipped a goat into ATK mode earlier in the game had obviously slipped Jansen’s mind. Dark Blade swung on the vulnerable goat and that was the game!

Game Win: Andrew Ferdeloa

Game Two

Jansen opened the game, and Ferdeloa started a long string of monster exchanges. Jansen ended up coming out on top, and pressed for a direct attack with a D. D. Warrior Lady. Ferdeloa dropped his own on the next turn and left it in face up attack position. A third D. D. hit the field on the next turn and Jansen attacked one of his into Ferdeloa. He looked to attack again with the other, but Ferdeloa stopped the offensive with a Book of Moon.

Another flurry of exchanges took place, but two turns in Jansen got in a direct attack with yet another D. D. The tables turned quickly as Jansen made a key misplay, tributing for a Jinzo that unfortunately ended up turning on him via Snatch Steal. Jansen topdecked like a king though, and next turn he set Fiber Jar. It was flipped by the attack of a Blade Knight on the next turn, which was accompanied by a second Blade Knight, so Fiber Jar’s effect triggered!

Both players drew their new hands, and neither seemed to have anything spectacular. The game moved at a lightning pace, and Ferdeloa took a lead, but Jansen’s luck kept on coming! He drew into Injection Fairy Lily and swung into a tokenless Breaker the Magical Warrior for the win!

Game Win: John Jansen

Game Three

Neither player began with a monster, but Ferdeloa attacked on his second turn with Blade Knight. Jansen attempted to claim it for his own with Snatch Steal, but Ferdeloa warded him off with Mystical Space Typhoon. Ferdeloa dropped D. D. Warrior Lady, attacked with both monsters directly, and Jansen was in serious trouble.

Without a monster play for the next turn, Jansen had no recourse. He set another spell or trap in an attempt to bluff, but Ferdeloa summoned a third attacker in the form of Breaker the Magical Warrior and all three monsters attacked to win the game! This long match ended with an extremely abrupt crush of vicious attacks, and Andrew Ferdeloa took the title of Orlando Shonen Jump Champion!

Tournament Win: Andrew Ferdeloa
