Yesterday 244 competitors began the day with high hopes of winning a brand new copy of Doomcaliber Knight. After 8 grinding rounds of tournament play, only 16 duelists remain. Those competitors will be dueling to keep their dream alive today, and when the dust all settles we’ll have crowned our Shonen Jump Champion. The majority of the Top 16 is Dark Armed Return decks. Ten duelists are playing Dark Armed Return variants, although one is missing Dark Armed Dragons. Another two are putting their hopes on Gladiator Beasts, while Zombies, DDT, TundOTK, and Six Samurai have each secured one spot in the Top 16.
Paul Levitin will look to improve on his tournament success yesterday. After taking a loss early on, Paul rounded out 7 wins to secure a spot in the Top 16. Today he’ll be taking on Joshua Fulger and his Dark Armed Return build. Cyber Valleys aren’t going to help against the Gladiator Beast monsters. Paul has taken down plenty of Dark Armed players, but were any of them as good as Fulger?
Anthony Duke and Alessandro Cianflone will face off next. A Dark Armed mirror match, each player chose to go with different tech for this event. The winner will likely determine which tech choice was better, and define the future metagame. Chris Bowling vs. Daniel Cisneros and Jerry Tandoc vs. Christopher Knudsvig have the same match details, so pay attention to the outcomes of these duels.
Christopher Kendrick and Jeremy Renda will meet in a matchup we’ve seen since the start of the format. Six Samurai vs. Dark Armed Return. Can Samurai overcome a Top 16 full of Dark Armed Return?
Anthony Alvarado will play Mario Matheu in a strange matchup for this Top 16. LaDD Dark Armed Return vs. Gladiator Beasts. It’s a new one, so who knows how it will play out.
The final matchup will be the first feature of the day. Kris Perovic has been riding DDT since it became possible to play, and he’s back in contention and looking for a win. Nathan Kral is playing Zombies teched heavily for Dark Armed Return. Will his tech play out against DDT? Stay tuned and find out.
