After a year-long wait, and $10Ks in countries like Germany, Australia, England, and Mexico, the Canucks finally get a chance today to strut their stuff on home turf.

The stage is set at the Canadian National Expo, the country’s largest Comic, Anime, and Gaming convention! Players from Montreal, Edmonton, and Quebec City have come to throw down with the locals. Canada’s only Pro Circuit Top 8 finisher, David Fielder, is sick at home—so the field is wide open. Notable Canadian Vs. players Donald Grant and Ben Kalman lead the hunt for $10K wins, but they’ve been joined by a number of local Yu-Gi-Oh! stars looking to do the same—Matt Peddle, the verbose Dave Bellido, and several others are attempting to make the leap by putting in impressive breakout showings.

However, a handful of notable American players stand in the way of the upstart Canadians. In a surprise showing, Dave Spears and Michael Jacob have both turned up to compete, and their superior premier-level experience may make the difference here today.

A mix of talented hopefuls have been joined by a few experienced ringers, and only time will tell how $10K Toronto’s story will play out. Will this weekend be known as the event where new stars were born and old veterans fell to fresh competition, or will the sheep fall one by one beneath the wolves? Will the sealed Avengers format aid relatively new players, or will it be their undoing? Despite a big local scene, Toronto players have been less than stellar in the international field.
