The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Round 2: David Leader vs. Vidi Wijaya
Anand Khare

Choosing feature matches is often a very difficult task. Not so here. Both of these players are true heavyweights in the Vs. world and they need no introduction. As soon as Leader sat down, he professed his lack of confidence in the matchup. “You’re going to crush me.” He said it with a grin on his face, though, so maybe he had something up his sleeve. They took a little extra time to shuffle. “I don’t think my deck can go to time,” said Leader.

Vidi won the roll and kicked off. Both players mulliganed and neither had a turn 1 play. Leader’s initiative on turn 2 yielded Hounds of Ahab. The Hounds attacked directly into Vidi’s empty board. Vidi dropped Sentinel Mark II on turn 3 and . . . this looks like a mirror match. Leader surprised the audience, though, dropping Elektra, Elektra Natchios, revealing a Luke Cage. Leader took 4 directly, then attacked into the Sentinel with Elektra and KO’d it with the Hounds. “I was wrong,” remarked Leader. “I thought he was playing a different deck. This is actually a very good matchup for me.” 43–42 Leader

On turn 4, Leader played not the Luke Cage he had revealed but instead a Yelena Belova ◊ Black Widow. Vidi played the predictable Sentinel Mark V. Yelena beat into the Mark V, and with the help of No Man Escapes the Manhunters, took it down. Flame Trap from Vidi halted the Hounds, but Leader had the Quick Kill to take it off the board anyway. Elektra dealt a little breakthrough and play moved on. 37–32 Leader

Vidi went into the tank on turn 5. His opponent’s hidden characters and his lack of a board led to a difficult situation for him. Eventually, he decided to drop Nimrod. Nimrod didn’t receive a counter due to Vidi’s lack of any other characters. Leader played Daredevil, Matt Murdock. Vidi played No Man Escapes the Manhunters on Yelena and took her down with Nimrod, playing Savage Beatdown for a little extra breakthrough. Leader’s Daredevil attacked into Nimrod, and Vidi had the Nasty Surprise to stun back. Elektra attacked directly once again, and that was the turn. 21–17 Vidi.

Leader’s turn 6 play was Spider-Man, the Spectacular Spider-Man. Vidi went into the tank once again. Eventually, he opted for a Sentinel Mark V with boost in front of Nimrod. Leader used Daredevil’s ability and took down Nimrod with no complications. Spider-Man took down Sentinel Mark V, and Elektra attacked directly with a Savage Beatdown for the win.

David Leader wins!
