Finals: Au Yong Wai Kin vs. Vincent Chan
Nick Wong

Game 1 began dramatically, with Vincent playing a Puppet Master and a Wolverine, Logan by turn 3, and Au Yong playing Tim Drake and Arsenal. After the customary exchange of stuns on turn 3, turn 4 saw Au Yong let Terra join the Teen Titans, while Chan played Rogue, Power Absorption. Terra and Arsenal attempted to team up on Wolverine, but Rogue copied Puppet Master’s ability and used it to take Arsenal out of the fight. This left only Terra to slam into an Acrobatic Dodgeing Wolverine. Turn 5 saw the X-Men deck play Scarlet Witch and Wanda Maximoff, and Terra KO’d the Argus to stun Puppet Master. He responded by exhausting Tim Drake. Au Yong revealed Tamaran in his resource row and recruited Garth. Rogue then attempted an attack, but was stopped by a pumped-up Attack Pressing Arsenal. Chan announced an attack by Scarlet Witch on Terra, but Garth returned Press the Attack to Au Yong’s hand, which he then used to recover Garth as Terra was stunned. Wolverine then exchanged stuns with Arsenal, and only Rogue and Scarlet Witch survived that turn. Hawk and Dove joined the Titan assault on turn 6 when Vincent called upon a new Puppet Master and Jean Grey, Marvel Girl. With the pressure already on, Au Yong took the game in short order by playing two Teen Titans Go!s in succession.

Game 2 began in a similar fashion to game 1, with Vincent again getting his Puppet Master and Wolverine. However, Au Yong kept up the pressure with Tim Drake, Hawk, and Dove. Red Star joined the Titans on turn 4, and Vincent fetched nothing from a Cerebro activation. Red Star and Hawk team-attackd Wolverine, leaving the veteran X-Man stunned. The X-Men deck recruited Sunfire on turn 5, stopping the Teen Titans’ assault. Still, Au Yong mustered the usual Teen Titans assault force of turn 5 Garth and turn 7 Starfire, but Au Yong overextended into Vincent’s defense. Using Garth until he was on very low endurance, Au Yong eventually fell to the ability of the Professor X, World’s Most Powerful Telepath that Vincent had played on turn 8.

Game 3 began with both players getting their optimal starts of Tim Drake, Hawk, and Dove for Au Yong, and Puppet Master and Wolverine for Vincent. Turn 4 saw the appearance of Rogue, Power Absorption for the X-Men, while the Teen Titans tried to force their way into the game with Terra. Au Yong, however, did not seem to have enough plot twists to race with. The game continued with small exchanges in combat, Au Yong playing Garth and Starfire, and Vincent ramping up to Scarlet Witch and the Professor. After several attempts to take the game away from Vincent, the match progressed to the fateful eighth turn. The room waited for ten full minutes as Au Yong determined whether or not he could kill Vincent. Vincent even started on his dinner (see picture) before Au Yong asked him if he had a Pleasant Distraction. Vincent just smiled, and Au Yong conceded, stating that it was 11 p.m. and he was too tired. He gave the Championship title to Vincent Chan.
