Dave Spears just recently had surgery on his neck to repair two ruptured disks, but even that couldn’t stop him from enjoying things this afternoon. He may not have much of a voice right now, but things sure are looking up for Dave Spears. He’s 4-1 after the first sealed deck and is wearing by far the best shirt in the entire venue. I can totally agree with this one—I <3 Hot Moms, too.
“In my first packs, I had no 7-drops and everything was just so off as far as teams, so let’s hope that this is better,” Dave said as he laid out his cards to double-check them with the registration sheet.
“Hey look, 7-drops! This thing is actually full of 7-drops . . . I hope the blues are good in this, because the characters are awesome,” he said as he continued to go through his card pool. “Looks like it’ll be Villains United and Checkmate, which could be pretty good.”
Dave pulled plenty of equips with this sealed deck and also had quite a few Locations. You could tell that he hasn’t played much Infinite Crisis Sealed, as he was reading every plot twist he saw. “This thing is just insane, -3 ATK / -3 DEF,” Dave said as he slid Grand Gesture across the table.
“This guy is a scary play,” Dave remarked as he pulled Ahmed Samsarra away from his characters. “Look at this, I’ve got two Cloak of Nabu cards right there as well. This is ridiculous.”
“Looks like I’m going to play this Deadshot, Dead Aim over Atom Smasher, and I’m going to have to run these fellows as well,” Dave stated, putting Deadshot and two copies of Ishmael Gregor ◊ Sabbac on the table for his 2-drops.
“Where are my team-ups? Looks like I’ll have to go with these Thanagar s instead. Also, look at this card, this card’s ridiculous!” Dave said with excitement as he showed me Annihilation Protocol ◊ OMAC Robot. “Wow! Look it’s a team-up!” Dave finally found his team-up plot twist, Coercion, which can be a very good addition to a sealed deck.
“I have to pick one of these . . .” Dave said as he stared at copies of Laser Watch, Defend Yourself!, Deflection, and Rook Control. Dave took his time as he went back over every card he had pulled from the five packs before making a decision about his final build. “I can always use Rook Control on turn 7 to move The Calculator, Crime Broker from my hidden area to my visible area.”
