The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Draft Pod 1: Andre Muller
Billy Zonos

After sitting in traffic this morning for what felt like hours (who runs a 10K walk during a $10K event?), the Top 24 is underway, baby! Are you as excited as I am? I doubt it. The players have assembled, the packs have been disseminated, so let's go!

Pack 1:

  1. Homo Superior, Neutralized, Harry’s Hideaway, Image Inducer
  2. Destiny, Freedom Force, Professor X, Headmaster, Sub-Mariner, Namor
  3. Retribution, Viper, Go Down Fighting
  4. Electric Eve, Mental Domination, Catseye, Phase Shift
  5. Postman, Storm, Gold Leader, Iceman, Deep Freeze
  6. Beast, Feline Geneticist, The Alley, Sunder, Storm, Gold Leader
  7. Annalee - A ton of bad Hellfire cards . . . honestly.
  8. Postman, Gambit, Ragin Cajun, Scaleface, X-men United

At this point, from what I could see and what he was showing me, Muller seemed to be going triple-team weenie. Let’s see if he ate his Wheaties this morning.

  1. Archangel, Angel, Healer, Callisto, Psylocke, Armored Empath
  2. Mindtap Mechanism, The Alley, Immovable,
  3. Go Down Fighting, bad cards, really terrible. Truly.
  4. Catseye, Phase Shift
  5. James Proudstar ◊ Thunderbird, Hellion, Krakoa – Obviously terrible, but you should see the gifts he gets later.

Pack 2:

  1. Destiny, Freedom Force, Ruins of Avalon, Doctor Druid
  2. Crimson Commando, X-Men United
  3. Planet X, Kill or Be Killed, Archangel, Angel, Leech, Silver Sabre

This was a tough pack. Muller agonized over the Kill or Be Killed. Hard decision, but teaming up is huge in this format when almost every archetype is multi-team.

  1. Wundagore Citadel, Pack Tactics, The Forsaken, Tar Baby
  2. Blackbird Blue – A diamond in the rough.

If he wasn’t going weenie-swarm before, he was now. Muller gave me that special look that can only mean, “Who passed this nutty 1st pick worthy card?”

  1. Mystique, Freedom Force, Toad, Hopalong, Angel of Mercy, Above and Below
  2. Pyro, Freedom Force – Look, these guys were passing way too fast, sorry.
  3. Teamwork, Wundagore Citadel, Phase Shift
  4. Senyaka, Doctor Druid – I wonder if the good doctor found a good home?
  5. Freedom Force, X-Men United
  6. Angel Dust, Archangel, Angel, Callisto
  7. The Forsaken
  8. Mysterium over Rogue…is it still rare drafting this late in a draft?
  9. Angel of Mercy – Gift #1

Pack 3:

  1. Planet X, Pack Tactics, Madelyne Pryor, 2xKang, Scarlet Centurion
  2. X-Corp, Hong Kong, Tommy, Mutopia
  3. X-Corp, Amsterdam
Shadowcat, Katya, Toad, Hopalong, Sewer System, Unuscione
  • Jubilee, Kidney Punch, The Forsaken
  • Annalee, Feel the Burn
  • Plague, Lockheed
  • Plague – Nothing else mattered at this point.
  • Pyro, Freedom Force
  • Madelyne Pryor, 2x Kang, Scarlet Centurion – I love the art on this guy, I would pick him just for that.
  • Mutopia – Nice Table.
  • Unuscione, Toad, Hopalong
  • The Forsaken
  • Dazzler, Rock Star
  • Lockheed – Gift #2
  •

Here’s what the “Mule” had to say:

“It’s looking pretty good, I think. I maybe should have taken Angel over Angeldust; it would be easier to team-up. I think maybe someone else was also trying to draft some of these guys. I let that Viper go; one of those Hong Kongs didn’t come back. But I did okay.”

“I try to hit a 6/6/6 ratio of characters when I draft this deck: Morlocks, X-Men and Brotherhood. I got 8/6/5 so that’s really close.”

When I asked him for a bold prediction, considering his stellar draft he humbly offered me these words:

“Well, I think my deck is very good but I don’t know how well the others did. I only need a 2-1 to make Top 8. I can afford to get a bad draw or lose the roll maybe? I could go 3-0 with this deck but I’m aiming for at least a 2-1.”

2-1? This guy could win the whole thing.
