Round 5 Feature Match: Dan Gow vs. Scott Smith
Enchante Chang

Dan Gow is one of the many top players in Sydney. He is facing Scott Smith, one of the other top players in Sydney, Scott Smith. It seems like a battle of the titans, as these two were both sitting at table 1 before being moved to the feature match area.

Turn 2 saw The Hand hit play and smack Dan for a direct endurance loss of 2.
On turn 3, Brother Voodoo came into play and attacked into Dan’s newly-recruited Sluk. Dan took another 2 endurance loss from The Hand, leaving the endurance totals at 43–48 to Scott’s advantage.

Dan’s turn 4 play was not what he wanted. He played out Vivisector, Myles Alfred and Sniper, while Scott had Masked Marauder. Psychoville got flipped and moved The Hand out. This allowed Sluk to attack into The Hand, causing a double stun because of The Hand’s ability. Sniper then attacked Brother Voodoo with help from an Uprising! Finally, Scott’s Marauder finished off Vivisector. Dan lost everything except his Sluk, and the endurance count was 31 to 39, still in Scott’s favor.

Scott recruited Dead Girl as his turn 5 play, while Dan recruited Elektra, Assassin. He immediately moved her into the open with Psychoville and sat in front of Sluk. Dead Girl made her move on Elektra but Dan flipped up Made Men, reinforced Elektra and then played Rough House! Scott’s hands were up in air when he realized he should have used the Maruader’s ability to exhaust Sluk before the attack. There was no endurance loss at all for the turn, leaving the score still at 31–39 in favor of Scott Smith.

Dan played out Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze, which was a huge 14 ATK/12 DEF compared to Scott’s newly recruited . . . Johnny Blaze, which was only 10 ATK/12 DEF. Sluk exhausted for Made Men. Ghost Rider was fought with his own demons, and attacked himself. This caused a huge chain. First Scott used Brother Voodoo to go down a card. With this on the chain, Dan discarded Tryks. Then, Scott used Nerve Strike to return Dead Girl and give Johnny Blaze +2 ATK/+2 DEF. Finally, he discarded Midnight Sons from his hand to reduce his hand size. No one stunned. Elektra attacked Masked Marauder, and then Scott’s Ghost Rider attacked Dan’s Sluk. After the dust had cleared, the endurance totals stood at 22 to 35, still in Scott’s favor.

With the initiative, Scott’s board looked very aggressive with Bullseye, Master of Murder. Dan played out Daredevil, Guardian Devil. Normally being at 22 endurance and on defense with Daredevil would be bad, because you can’t move him into the open. Dan had Psychoville, though, and moved him into the front row protecting Sluk. The pressure was getting to these two, and a lot of thinking was happening. Scott flipped up his own Made Men and exhausted Brother Voodoo to attack Sluk. Dan let the attack be legal, then exhausted Sluk to Made Men and used Ghost Rider to reinforce. Bullseye attacked Daredevil, and they traded stuns. Dan finally got to attack and used Elektra to attack Brother Voodoo for 3 endurance loss. The endurance score was 10–25, in Scott’s favor.

Yet again, a feature match went to turn 8. With the initiative, it seemed good to be in Dan’s position, but Scott was on a healthy 25 endurance. U-Go-Girl, Eddie Sawyer was the play from both of the gentlemen sitting at the feature match table. It would seem they were playing identical decks. Everyone was in the front row on Dan’s side, while Scott’s formation was U-Go-Girl in front, Ghost Rider behind her and Bullseye on the side. Dan’s Daredevil attacked Scott’s U-Go-Girl, which exhausted for Made Men, and Scott reinforced with Ghost Rider. Elektra assassinated the Master of Murder, which seemed kind of ironic. Dan decided not to use U-Go-Girl to attack Ghost Rider. The endurance totals were getting very close, 5 to 12 still in Scott’s favor.

Turn 9 came and time had been called in the round. Both players slowed down their pace of play and a real crowd had formed. Scott had Elektra, Agent of the Hand and a second Masked Marauder which prompted a response of, “You got two of them?” Dan recruited Mysterious Fan Boy.

Masked Marauder exhausted for Made Men so that Bullseye could attack the Fan Boy. Dan exhausted U-Go-Girl to Made Men, then played Uprising. This started a chain of trying to move out Elektra to reinforce, and Scott using his Marauder’s ability four times to try to exhaust all of Dan’s characters. Dan was calm, and had the final Out of the Darkness to move her out and reinforce. At this point, all of Dan’s characters were exhausted and Scott had free reign on Dan’s army. The game ended quickly.

Scott Smith wins!
