The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

$10K Gen Con UK
Metagame Staff

Remember, remember, the fifth of November!

It was fireworks night this weekend at Gen Con UK 2005, and the fireworks made their way all the way through the $10K Top 8. If there was ever any doubt about the power of the Avengers set in Constructed, it can be pushed out of sight and mind by this blinding Top 8 that featured two Squadron Supreme decks, a Thunderbolts deck, and two Avengers reservist builds. Round out that number with some highly innovative combo/control builds and you have quite a bit for players of Pro Circuit LA to think about.

When the dust settled, it was Lincoln, England resident (and leader of Team Comic Culture) Karl Bown who walked away with the trophy, taking down Germany's best, both Hans Joachim Hoh and Andre Muller's Squadron Supreme decks with his consistent and powerful Avengers build. The whole weekend, the Avengers decks were outnumbering Sentinels, and they outnumbered them in the Top 8 as well. All it took was Marvel’s finest working as a team to take down the robots. Why did nobody think of this before?

Congratulations to Karl Bown, champion of $10K Gen Con UK 2005!

Day 2
This is it. The final showdown. There is a German seated at the final table of the $10K, and he is Hans Hoh.
Karl won the roll and kept his opening hand, while Sam was forced to mulligan. Each player had a 1-drop—Karl in the form of Beast, Furry Blue Scientist, while Roads had Alfred.
Andre won the roll and elected to take the odd initiative. Both players had to mulligan to start the game off.
Day 1
Check out the Top 8 decklists, complete with analysis by Tim Willoughby!
In the final round, if you were German, you had about a 2/3 chance of being a player who was locked in the Top 8. If you weren't one of the three players of Team Hans, though, the best you could hope for was a bubble match, which is we saw here.
Hans led off with Joystick, who held some Dual Sidearms, compared with Micro-Chip, who suddenly seemed rather outclassed.
It's great to see creativity be rewarded at the highest level, and for round seven, we have one of the more creative pairs of deckbuilders to come out of Great Britain in the history of Vs.
Florent is one of the more active French players on the Pro Circuit, and has had some success in various TCGs that he has turned his hand to. His opponent has slightly less experience, but this isn't something that can really be held against him, as he is just eleven years old.
Break it down! Following Orlando, the Golden Age metagame has been a little shaken up, and with many of the top teams maneuvering for position in the race to find the best deck for PC LA, there is quite the variety of creations on show at this year's Gen Con $10K.
Alex Tennet is an English native, though you wouldn't know it, as he's been playing with Team FTN at US tournaments in recent times.
Hans Joachim Hoh, Dean Sohnle, and Alex Tennet have all won $10K events before. Suffice to say, they are at least as intimidating to opponents as the players that are roaming the Vs. area dressed as zombies.
There aren't many places where you can run around hitting people with a rubber cricket bat for eight hours without people batting an eyelid, so it was with some relish that the rare opportunity that Gen Con represents was taken to the absolute limit.
