The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

PC4L: Logan Bolam
Julia Birks

Logan lives in Wellington at the moment, but assures us that he is an Aucklander, through and through. He first rolled into Vs System in 2003 around the time of DC Superman, when fellow En-Zedder, Enchante Chang, got him into the game. Logan has taken out one PCQ, and has had some very near misses with past $10Ks. Having just recently returned from So Cal, we pulled Logan aside to mash words over his PC experiences, and what he expects from Vs in the coming months.

How was PC Los Angeles?

Well, it wasn't that great in terms of the results I posted. In terms of the PC as an experience, however, it was pretty good. It was an expensive holiday, but it proved to be a lot of fun with some very interesting people. I'd just like to say that the rest of the Australasian players (Kakarot, Shaun, James, Iain, Early, Kieren, Luke and Anthony) were a great bunch of people to hang out with. I look forward to travelling with them again in future.

What deck did you play and how did you go?

I played a GLoom deck loosely based on the deck that Andrew Morris Top 8'd with at $10k Brisbane '06. I made a few changes in the 2-drop category and added some of the more useful plot twists from the most recent expansions. As for results . . . I went 1-5 and then dropped from the Pro Circuit, and then went a slightly less disappointing 3-3-drop in the Sealed $10K the next day. I think it was a good call based on the metagame we expected: a lot of highly-powered rush decks. However, it turned out that everyone else was expecting the same thing! I ended up losing games to combo and stall decks.

Alex Antonios’ hairdo. What's your take on that, and would you consider wearing your hair in a similar fashion?

It's a bit extreme . . . definitely not suited to me. Maybe after a very, very long night I could be convinced to partake in such a bizarre 'do.

Best deck in Silver Age at the moment?

Jeez, that's a good question. If I knew the answer to that I would probably be more certain about what I was going to play this weekend. I guess it's Kree though. It’s got a lot of late-game power.

Best deck you've ever built?

I guess I haven't really built any decks. I've talked theory and made suggestions about a number of decks, but none are really my own creation. I have got an interesting deck that I built, but I'm not sure whether it's consistent enough to play this weekend.

Best player you've ever played against?

I can't answer this question with just one person . . . both of these guys are awesome opponents:

Kieren 'Honest' Otton. The attached constructed PCQ of Auckland $10K saw me face Kieren in the PCQ semifinals. I was pretty scared actually, facing off against the big guns of Arkham in my first big tournament.

Darryn 'DazDaz' Ying. He's always a laugh to play against as he's got more trash talk than that guy that lived in the garbage in Sesame Street (that’s Oscar, people!). Always a good player, Darryn's one of the most entertaining and challenging opponent's you'll meet.

Most fun game you've ever played?

Pretty much any game against Zachary Kerr is fun. Neither of us take the game seriously when we play . . . I try and flick cards around and throw abuse at him. He should have been in my answer to the above question also.

What are you looking for in Legions?

A playset of Money . . . I mean Mobilize. Also, some good legacy cards for the teams that need it. Some cards that put a bit more focus on the late-game curve would be nice also. It's pretty pants not playing drops above 6 anymore.

Best dressed Vs player?

That's a random question. I would have to say that Paul in the Wolverine costume at Brisbane '06 was pretty cool.

Favorite Vs card?

Total Anarchy . . . because nothing caps weenies better. Not even that guy that Luke Bartter knows.

What are your thoughts on PC Sydney? Are you qualified? Can an Australasian player win it?

Having a PC on this side of the world is a great asset for NZ and Australian Vs players. It is a great thing that the boys at UDE have recognized the support that our players give the company. Yes, I'm qualified. I think an Australasian player can definitely win it, but it will still be as hard a road as any PC.

Who and what deck is going to win this thing?

If you gave me the lists of what everyone is playing, it would be slightly easier to make that call. Just for fun though, I'm going to say Alex Brown playing G’Lock.
