The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

I sat down with Michael Jacob, one of the players running this innovative new deck, to ask him a few questions about it.

Where did the idea of this deck originate?

Dan Clark from RIW Hobbies came up with the original idea for the deck.

Why did you play this deck instead of the New School build that some of your teammates are playing?

We looked at the last Golden Age $10K (that Josh won), and we played four or five games against the top decks from that event. We were undefeated every time, so we thought that this should be the deck that we play.

Why do you play Poison Ivy in a stall deck?

The biggest reason is Xavier’s School. Also, it allows multiple activations of Puppet Master with Dr. Light. You can get up to three Puppet Master activations in a single turn with just a single Puppet Master.

Could you describe the power level of this deck?

So far, in every single game, my opponents have gotten to attack me no more than twice, usually on the first few turns. In four of my five games, I ended the game at greater than 50 endurance.

Well, there you have it. I can tell you that this deck has real problems with Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff and Power Compressor, but other than that, it seems like an incredibly solid wrecking ball against the metagame. At the time I’m writing this, Michael is 5-0 and poised to make yet another $10K Top 8.
