The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017
While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Metagame Breakdown |

Of the 81 decks played at $10K Seattle, here’s how the metagame was split:
Curve Sentinels: 21 Teen Titans: 5 TNB Blitz: 5 Fantastic Fun: 3 Common Enemy: 5 Shimmercops: 3 Medium Brotherhood: 3 Doom Control: 3
The following decks were played by two people: League of Assassins, Brave and the Bold, Darkseid’s Elite, Mutant Nation, EMS, X-Beats, F4 Burn, and My Beloved.
The following decks made up the rest of the field and were run by only a single player: Cosmic Cops, Spider-Friends/X-Men, MK/Underworld, Gotham Knights, Longshot/Mutant Nation, Doom/League, Underworld/Brotherhood, Darkseid/Revenge Squad, Darkseid/Arkham, Marvel Knights, Syndicate/Spidey, Darkseid/GK, Crime Lords, X-Statix, F4 Beats, Spider-Friends/GK, and Big Brotherhood.
Although there is a crushing majority for Curve Sentinels, this is likely still the most varied metagame ever to hit a $10K. While the popularity of Curve Sentinels was predictable (and is still dwarfed by the 29.5 percent of $10K Amsterdam), the surprise here is the wide variety of other decks present in the metagame. As much as I’ve wrack my brain, I can’t really think of a notable deck that isn’t being represented by at least one player, aside from Wild Vomit and Heroes United.
The inevitable result of such a varied field is that the metagame will favor decks with few bad matchups and lots of different options — these decks will handle a random field better than more metagame-specific decks will. While Betrayal will be a high-impact card, it’s possible that Total Anarchy will be virtually wasted — it will only be useful against the 20 percent or so of the field represented by Titans, Blitz, Fantastic Fun, EMS, and Cosmic Cops. In virtually any other matchup, Anarchy is going to be a dead card, and even with the threat of Fantastic Fun that fact might end up being a swing factor today.
Most of the decks being represented in pairs or as one-ofs are curve-based, so conditions are exceedingly good for TNB Blitz. At the same time, though, the environment seems as if it may be prime for Evil Medical School and Fantastic Fun decks. It should be an interesting day, and this metagame could very well be a strong proving ground for several new decks. |
