Quarterfinals: Quang Nguyen vs. Niles Rowland
Toby Wachter

Game 1

Rowland started with She-Thing, and Nguyen had Wolverine, Logan on turn 3. Rowland’s Darkoth was attacked by Wolverine and stunned, and Rowland played the 4-drop Wolverine. Ngyen continued to add efficient characters to his side with Sabretooth, which Rowland’s Wolverine attacked, causing both to be stunned. Nguyen upgraded to a 5-drop Wolverine, and Rowland played Ghost Rider. A Wolverine attack with a power-up let Nguyen stun Rowland’s Wolverine, and Savage Land made his Sabretooth into a massive threat. The end result was Rowland’s Ghost Rider and Wolverine stunned, and Nguyen pulled further ahead thanks to Avalon Space Station. Wolverine was KO’ed during the recovery, and Rowland took the initiative.

Thing, The Ever-Lovin' Blue-Eyed Thing gave Rowland a bit more to fight back with, and Nguyen played Colossus. Thing attacked Wolverine, and after a power-up war, Thing became stunned, while Wolverine used his special ability to move to the back row. Ghost Rider attacked Colossus to stun both characters, and Darkoth charged into Sabertooth to do the same. The end result after recovery was Rowland left with Thing, and Nguyen with Sabretooth and Wolverine. From this point, Nguyen was easily able to finish the game.

Nguyen 1 – Rowland 0

Game 2

Rowland once again had a second turn She-Thing, while Nguyen had Pyro. Rowland played She-Thing, and Nguyen played a 3-drop Wolverine. Signal Flare followed by a 4-drop Dr. Doom gave Rowland some card advantage, and Nguyen played Nightcrawler, Fuzzy Elf. Mutant Nation gave his strategy a little more synergy, and after that, Nguyen’s characters were simply bigger and better than Rowland’s. Signal Flare let Rowland search up the 4-drop Wolverine, and he played Boris as well. Quicksilver, Speed Demon gave Nguyen another threat, and Rowland had to use two Acrobatic Dodges just so that he wouldn’t fall behind even further. Quicksilver was readied and attacked again, and this time he got a stun through. Once again, Nguyen was too far ahead for Rowland to recover.

Final Result: Quang Nguyen defeats Niles Rowland 2–0
