How often do you find yourself with a hand full of unplayable low-drop characters in the middle of the game? Now, you can put those cards to good use with Centurious.
First, a bit of character history. Centurious was a Native American whose soul was stolen by Mephisto. He did it so that Zarathos’s attack against Centurious would be ineffective, as there would be no soul in Centurious to attack. This failed attack caused Zarathos’s followers to lose faith in him, which consequently diminished his power enough to let Mephisto steal his soul. Mephisto now gets his kicks by projecting the soul of Zarathos into human hosts. These human hosts have been calling themselves Ghost Rider ever since.
So, Centurious is mad about the whole thing and blames Zarathos for the loss of his soul. Centurious uses his “Crystal of Souls” to steal the souls of others. Do unto others, and all that . . .
While a quick +1 ATK/+1 DEF during combat can be nice, discarding character cards isn’t something every team wants to do. However, it’s worth it in an Underworld deck. You see, the Underworld team derives a lot of its power and trickiness from the size and contents of its KO pile. The bigger it is, the better it is, so dump those characters in there when you need ’em and get some ATK and DEF bonuses while you’re at it.
Since you haven’t yet seen the rest of the team, you can’t really understand how much synergy Centurious has with them. We can, however, look at how he performs when teamed up with existing decks. His best bet is with the Brotherhood in a Lost City/Avalon Space Station deck. Once a team-up is going, the multitude of 1- and 2-drops the Brotherhood runs are all easily brought back to hand with the Station. Filter them through Centurious—Lost City will convert that power-up into a +3 ATK/+3 DEF beating. Conversely, we might see Toad showing up in some Underworld decks.
Between the Underworld and concealed characters, Marvel Knights gives us two new areas of the board to keep an eye on. When an Underworld player’s KO pile is looking rather full, you never know what sort of devilry might emerge from that infernal region.
