The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Round 10: David Leader vs. Chris Carner
Anand Khare

Chris is a local player from Raleigh; this is his first $10K. David Leader should be familiar to everyone—he has a PC win under his belt and is easily one of the top three players at this feature match table. David won the die roll and selected the odd initiatives.

Neither player had a 1-drop or a 2-drop. David had the first drop of the game; he played Orphan, Guy Smith, revealing Zeitgeist. Chris played Dr. Polaris, Force of Nature. Orphan took down Polaris, and play moved to the next turn.

Chris played Enemy of My Enemy to get Fatality, Flawless Victory, discarding Mr. Mxyzptlk, Troublesome Trickster. David recruited a Fatality of his own. Chris sent Polaris into Orphan with two power-ups, and the 3-drop was KO’d. Chris sent his Fatality into David’s Fatality. David flipped Kang Kross-roads, and Chris was brick-walled. Chris played Pleasant Distraction on Fatality, and David responded with Star of the Show. Fatality attacked Polaris, and David flipped Coercion, revealing Zeitgeist, as well as an X-Statix Cafe. Chris allowed the stun, and with Fatality’s ability on the chain, he returned Polaris to his hand to play Baddest of the Bad, searching for The Calculator, Noah Kuttler. He used Noah to get Coercion, and then passed. David now led, 48-32.

Turn 5 was David’s initiative, and he passed. Chris recruited a very ineffective Kang, The Conqueror (fueled by Coercion on Kang Council). He couldn’t attack, and David flipped The Hill to attack Chris with an 11 ATK / 11 DEF Fatality. David led 48-24.

On turn 6, Chris recruited Alexander Luthor, Diabolical Double. David recruited Zeitgeist. At the beginning of combat, Kang exhausted Fatality. Chris still sent his Fatality into David’s for the trade. Chris then sent Alexander Luthor into Zeitgeist. He powered-up and passed. David played Mutant of the Year to KO Fatality, and Chris’s Luthor was stunned by the 16 ATK / 16 DEF Zeitgeist. David sent Zeitgeist in directly, and Chris had two copies of Meltdown to stay alive. With the endurance totals at 46-2, though, and a cosmic counter on Zeitgeist, there really wasn’t any hope for Chris.
