The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Metagame Breakdown
Tim Willoughby

Break it down! Following Orlando, the Golden Age metagame has been a little shaken up, and with many of the top teams maneuvering for position in the race to find the best deck for PC LA, there is quite the variety of creations on show at this year's Gen Con $10K. The creation of Vs. wunderkind Michael Jacob, and Dave “I’m Married Now” Spears that took the top honors in Florida has risen to the top of the heap in player preferences in Europe, with around 14 percent of the field, closely followed by the team that everyone loves to hate—the New York Yankees.

Currently a lot of writers are spelling the team name as Sentinels, but looking at the amount of money they have accrued, we all know who’s the real leader of Operation Zero Tolerance. Where Hans Hoh fits into the batting order is anyone’s guess, though. Hans actually appears to have defected for this event, playing an aggressive Squadron Supreme deck, which is currently unbeaten by the field. With nine players running the empty-handed strategy, they are the third most represented deck type.

The full breakdown is as follows. As you can see, it’s quite the mixed bag.

Avengers: 17

Sentinels: 14

Squadron Supreme: 9

Teen Titans: 7

Concealed Beats: 6

New Brotherhood: 6

GLEE: 6

Thunderbolts Team Tactics: 5

Fantastic Fun: 5

Spider Friends Stall: 4

Doom Control: 4

Kang: 4

League of Assassins: 3

X-Men: 3

Big Brotherhood: 3

GLEE/Masters of Evil: 3

Kang City: 2

Brave and the Bold: 2

Doom/Kang: 2

New School: 2

GK Curve: 2

In addition to this, there are a multitude of singletons in the field, including Brian Mulcahy with a Gamma Doom deck that seems to be keeping him smiling in spite of some unspectacular results thus far, an Xavier’s Dream deck, a League of Brotherhood deck, Zero Hour and even an intriguing deck that’s designed to abuse Cosmic Radiation with Alfred Pennyworth, Faithful Friend, Roy Harper ◊ Arsenal and Dr Light, Arthur Light. Lots of team-ups bring it all together, and clearly something is working there, as its designer, Sam Roads, is currently 4-0. Stay tuned for more hot tech throughout the day.
