These two Europeans are TCG specialists. Both of them have attended many different TCG professional events and posted many money finishes. Now, they were facing each other with 10-6 records in the Pro Circuit, hoping to post a decent finish in this event. The Dutch Jelger won the flip and chose the odd initiative.
The first 2 turns went by with both players playing out their resources as planned. Jelger opened with Superman Robots on his third turn, and John answered with Mongal. The two characters stunned each other in combat, and the players headed toward the fourth turn. John recruited Metallo to his front row, while Jelger managed to get Superman, Clark Kent protected by Superman Robots. John thought for a while and passed on attacks, but Jelger decided that his Superman could easily handle Mongal, dropping John to 41 endurance.
On the fifth turn, the heavy hitters came out: Cir-El ◊ Supergirl for Jelger and Devilance for John. Jelger’s Superman attacked Metallo, and the Dutchman powered-up his Man of Steel twice. After a little consideration, John flipped over Suicide Slums and powered-up Metallo, but he still lost the character after combat. Cir-El attacked Devilance, and Jelger improved Supergirl with Super Strength. Finally, Superman Robots attacked Mongal, resulting in two stunned characters. At the end of the turn, Jelger still had Superman and Cir-El in play, while John had Devilance.
In order to stage a comeback, John played Orion, True Son of Darkseid, one of the set’s better 6-drops. Jelger added John Henry Irons ◊ Steel to his side of the board. Orion headed over for Steel, and Jelger removed his cosmic counter to make him 13 DEF. John flipped over Up, Up, and Away, but it was countered by Jelger’s Stopped Cold. However, an I Hate Magic! from John finished off Steel after all. The Englishman’s Devilance went after Superman, but Jelger had Heat Vision to stun the Darkseid’s Elite character, causing some more endurance loss to John. John couldn’t take all that much anymore. Jelger attacked John directly with Cir-El, dropping John to a total of 2 endurance to Jelger’s 23.
On the seventh and final turn, Jelger recruited Eradicator, Soul of Krypton, while John had General Zod. The Eradicator attacked John’s Orion, and although John tried to prevent some endurance loss with Boom Tube, he had forgotten about Eradicator’s special ability and realized that he could not stage a comeback after all.
Jelger wins the match.
