The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

$10K Bologna

Hans Joachim Hoeh takes the $10K Bologna 2005 title, joining Rob Leander as the only double-$10K winner!

Like any decent comic book character, Hans Joachim Hoeh did what he had to do today. When he rampaged through the tournament, sweeping away opponent after opponent and heralding a unblemished record against Teen Titans, he seemed destined to meet that exact deck in the finals.

When he got there, one last Italian stood in his way. Raffaele Lo Moro was the last remaining Italian from a Top 8 that included Matteo Paolucci and Andrea Santin, and he was playing the Teen Titans.

The end of this story could end with the hometown hero saving the day, or the unforgiving powerhouse completing his sweep. Either way is a good story. You read the first line, so you know how it ended.

It’s been a very long day, but it’s finally over. We have a worthy winner and a few stories to tell back home. Congratulations to Hans Joachim Hoeh, winner of $10K Bologna!

It’s been a long day, but these two still have enough in them for one final fight, the finals of $10K Bologna 2005.
Hans Joachim Hoeh is on fire today. He swept through the ten Swiss rounds of the tournament, destroyed his quarterfinals opponent and sat chatting with his friends as Andrea Santin and Matteo Paolucci fought through a three-game quarterfinal match decided in the nerve-wracking “third game in extra time” scenario.
Lo Moro is one of six Italian players in this Top 8. What makes him special among them is the success he has had with TCGs for a long period of time—since 1998, to be more exact.
Check out the Top 8 decklists here!
While I was checking the decklists earlier today, I noticed they had something that can lead to the deepest despair anyone who has to type them up. Some of the lists have some card names, or even all the card names, in Italian.
It doesn’t get any better than this. We have the two winners of the last European $10K Championships playing the two most popular decks in the room.
Outside, Bologna is covered in snow, but in here, things are heating up. We are at the halfway point of the Swiss portion of the tournament.
It wouldn’t be a big event in Italy without some local coverage.
Depending on your interest in card games, you might or might not know these two players. Raffaele and Andrea are surely two of Italy’s biggest hopes to conquer the Vs. System game.
I quickly went through the 116 decklists to get a general idea of what $10K Bologna has to offer.
If you haven’t marked it on your calendar, make sure you have April 7-10 put aside for Vs. System. If you can make it to Amsterdam, you simply must do so. Even if you don’t have an invitation for the big tournament, there is so much to see and do at a Pro Circuit event.
It had to happen sooner or later. After six years and dozens of smooth flights, I was finally greeted at an airport by the dreaded red letters: Flight Cancelled.
