The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Revisiting Some Old Friends
Nate Price

Day 1 here at PC Indianapolis is slowly drawing to a close. Before too much longer, we’ll know which players have managed the requisite 7-5 record necessary to even be considered for Day 2. This close to the end of the day, I’d like to take a walk and check in with a few of the people we’ve covered today and see how they’ve fared since we last saw them.

Between rounds 1 and 2, we had a chance to check in with a couple that many of you may remember as Top 8 competitors at the recent $10K Wizards World Chicago. Daniella Grijalva and David Frayer both came into this event looking to duplicate their performances in Chicago. David started the day strong, going 4-0 before suffering his first loss of the day to, of all things, the Superman Robots mirror match. He’s managed to continue strong since then, though. At 7-2, he is virtually guaranteed to make at least Day 2.

On the other hand, Daniella has run into a spot of bad luck. Since clocking in a first round win with an identical Superman Robots deck, she has only been able to put together a 4-4 record. At 5-4, it isn’t impossible for her to make Day 2—it just means that she’ll have to step up and focus to make it to the next day.

Also introduced in the first-round break was Team Realmworx, composed of many West Coast gamers, including Vidi Wijaya, Ryan Jones, and the notable Dave Spears. These guys have really been tearing up the Pro Circuit as of late and have many of the top players in the game. I decided to give a look around to check and see how some of them were doing.

Unfortunately, Vidi Wijaya is sitting on the bubble. After virtually alternating wins and losses for the first few rounds, Vidi and his Qwardians deck couldn’t seem to get a foothold up to the next level. However, teammate Ryan Jones is doing amazingly well. He rocketed off to a 3-0 start before dropping his first game and is now sitting pretty at 6-3.

“What about Dave Spears?” you may ask. All I can say is that Dave Spears is the man. 8-1. Eight wins and one loss. Spears is an absolute powerhouse today. He’s the Juggernaut of the PC Indianapolis format and he just can’t be stopped. On top of this, if any of you have ever met Dave, he’s one of the greatest and nicest human beings to ever walk the planet. Congratulations, Dave, I’ll be following you on Day 2.

The last person to look at is the Hong Kong Cavalier, Anthony Justice. Anthony has been having a rough day. He’s managed to claw his way to the edge of the bubble and is sitting at 5-4 right now. He’s really been catching the worst of it today, but with all of the GLEE floating around, it’s got to be really tough to win all of the mirror matches. Unfortunately for him, last I checked he was paired up against his own teammate, fellow Cavalier Jason Hager. This is a match where there is sadly no real winner. One of them will be that much closer to Day 2. The other will really have his back to the wall.

That about does it for this touch up. Continue to check back here at Metagame.com for all the updates from Pro Circuit Indy.
