Carl Perlas is one of the nicest players in the game—and he's also one of the better players. He's been in a bit of a slump of late, but is looking to roar back with a solid Sealed performance. His pool is pretty nice, with some strong tricks and a decent curve.

Sweeping Up Carl's secret to Sealed success is to make sure that your curve is solid. “Your focus should be on drops. Make sure you have a consistent curve, that's the most important thing. If you miss your drops, your plot twists don't matter.” After your curve is settled, Carl feels that you should look for cards that can be reused. “Plot twists and locations you can reuse are really strong—like
Korugar, with multiple uses, turn after turn.”
For the curve, the magic number is four. Four 1- and 2-drops, four of every other drop from 3 to 5,then three 6-drops and one or two 7-drops. If you have an 8-drop or solid 6-drops, you can go with the single 7. “Most 7-drops in this set have low DEF or low ATK, so a 6-drop with a pump should take care of the low-DEF ones, and the ones with the low ATKs are easier to absorb.”
Carl was, on the whole, happy with the packs, although he lamented not keeping the “incredible” ones he opened—which teammate Shane Wendel happened to get.

Lanterns in Love He decided to go with 31 cards (“What the hell!”), with an aim for the stall. “With the 8-drop Krona, I decided to team-up and conserve breakthrough. The Banishes, three team-ups,
Jailbird and Hospitality will hopefully let me stall to get to turn 8.”
He chose Emerald Enemies and Anti-Matter as his central factions. “They had the most drops. I did have eight or nine Green Lantern characters, but nothing over 5.”
As for his deck on the whole, “It's decent. If I hit Grundy—which is an alternate 7-drop—and
Goldface, plus maybe
Gnaxos, I'll usually have board advantage.
Goldface's cost is a pretty rough requirement, but I should be able to pay it.” The only choice he was thinking twice about was leaving out
Living Ink. “It's a good card, but I don't want to play with a liability card.”
