Domingo Charlman vs. Bertram Chuang
Noel Neo

Bertram chose the odd initiatives. Domingo started off with Cheetah on turn 1. On turn 2, he played Talia, Beloved Betrayer and Bertram flipped Dr. Fate’s Tower, searching for Cloak of Nabu. Bertram recruited Wesley Dodds ◊ The Sandman and equipped him with the full complement of Fate Artifacts—Cloak of Nabu, Helm of Nabu, and Amulet of Nabu. In response to the cloak, Domingo flipped Magical Lobotomy.

Domingo passed his attack and Bertram had Wesley run Cheetah through.

Bertram recruited Michael Holt ◊ Mr. Terrific in the concealed area and Domingo had Weather Wizard on turn 3. Domingo had Cheetah protect Weather Wizard with Talia beside him. At the start of combat, Cheetah exhausted to Wesley Dodds’s ability. Michael attacked Talia and she stunned. Next, Wesley attacked and stunned Weather Wizard. Weather Wizard recovered, and Talia, Beloved Betrayer remained stunned going into turn 4.

Domingo had Bizarro, ME AM BIZARRO #1 on turn 4, and Bertram played Batman, Earth 2. Bertram then moved all his equipment onto Michael Holt. At the beginning of combat, Domingo paid endurance to flip down Magical Lobotomy before attacking Wesley with Weather Wizard and flipping the plot twist right back up. However, Bertram had Knightmare Scenario, and Domingo was forced to play Death from Above for the double stun. When Domingo proposed Bizarro into Batman, Earth 2, Bertram exhausted him to replace Thanagar. Bertram then allowed the attack and Domingo had to flip Burning Gaze to prevent his own character from stunning. Passed the initiative, Bertram attacked Cheetah with Michael for some endurance loss. Bertram lost Wesley and Domingo lost Cheetah and Talia.

On turn 5, Bertram underdropped with Amanda Waller and shifted his Fate Artifacts onto Batman. Domingo played Wonder Woman, Earth 2 and formed in an L with her protecting Bizarro. Batman attacked Wonder Woman and she stunned. Michael Holt attacked Bizarro with support from I Still Hate Magic! and Domingo reinforced before the double stun. Finally, Amada Waller took out Weather Wizard. Domingo could only keep Wonder Woman and was down to 8 endurance to Bertram’s 37.

It was Domingo’s turn to under-drop on turn 6 with Talia, Daughter of Madness. He then paid 1 resource point for Talia to get +2 ATK and flight from Death from Above. Bertram was in no better a position, as he could only muster Kendra Saunders ◊ Hawkgirl. He shifted his equipment onto Michael Holt and formed with both visible characters in his support row. Talia attacked and stunned Batman, while Wonder Woman did the same to Kendra Saunders. Bertram KO’d Kendra and they moved on to turn 7.

Bertram recruited Sasha Bordeaux, Autonomous Prototype and moved the Artifacts onto Batman. He formed with Sasha in front of Batman. Domingo played Dr. Psycho, Twisted Telepath and paid for him to gain +2 ATK and flight. Dr. Psycho’s ability took Domingo down to 0 endurance and Bertram to 16. Sasha Bordeaux and Amanda Waller team attacked Dr. Psycho and he and Amanda stunned. Batman and Michael then team attacked Talia, and that was game.

Bertram 1, Domingo 0

Domingo chose the odd initiatives for game 2. Once again, Domingo’s opening play was Cheetah. But this time, Bertram had Chay-Ara ◊ Hawkgirl to oppose her. Bertram missed his second turn drop, and Weather Wizard once more saw play for Domingo. Chay-Ara stunned Cheetah, and Cheetah’s vengeance gave Weather Wizard a boost for the turn.

Domingo recruited Dr. Psycho, Mental Giant on turn 3, while Bertram had Ted Grant ◊ Wildcat equipped with Cloak of Nabu. He then flipped Dr. Fate’s Tower, searching for Amulet of Nabu, and equipped it onto Ted. Weather Wizard attacked Chay-Ara and Ted reinforced before Bertram KO’d her to search for Kendra Saunders ◊ Hawkgirl. Domingo chose not to attack further.

On turn 4, Bertram recruited Batman, Earth 2, and Domingo had Bizarro, ME AM BIZARRO #1. He formed with Cheetah and Weather Wizard protecting Dr. Psycho and Bizarro respectively. Ted attacked and stunned Dr. Psycho, while Batman did the same to Cheetah. Bizarro then went into Batman with support from Burning Gaze. Domingo flipped No Mercy, returning Cheetah, to KO Batman.

Domingo replayed Cheetah on turn 5, coupled with Sinestro, Villain Reborn. Bertram looked to be losing board position, as he could only manage Stargirl and Kendra Saunders. He formed in an L with Kendra protecting Ted.

Weather Wizard attacked Stargirl and Ted reinforced before the double stun. All Domingo’s characters now had +1 ATK / +1 DEF and flight. Next, Bizarro took out Kendra. Finally, Dr. Psycho and Cheetah team attacked Ted, and Ted and Cheetah stunned, further boosting Domingo’s characters by 1 ATK. Finally, Sinestro attacked Bertram directly to bring him down to 7.

Bertram’s turn 6 play was Jay Garrick ◊ The Flash, and Domingo’s was Dr. Psycho, Twisted Telepath. Domingo formed with Weather Wizard and Sinestro protecting Dr. Psycho and Bizarro respectively. Bertram took a closer look at Dr. Psycho, Twisted Telepath’s ability, looking for an out, before shaking his head and conceding.

Bertram 1, Domingo 1

It was Bertram’s turn to have the odd initiatives again, and his opening play was once again Chay-Ara ◊ Hawkgirl, but this time Domingo had no response. On turn 2, Domingo had Weather Wizard and Bertram had Stargirl. Weather Wizard attacked Stargirl for a double stun.

Bertram managed to find Ted Grant off the top of his deck for turn 3, and Domingo played Rose Psychic in his concealed area. Stargirl and Chay-Ara team attacked Weather Wizard, and when Domingo chose to stun Chay-Ara, Bertram KO’d her to search for Kendra Saunders ◊ Hawkgirl. Rose then attacked Stargirl without stunning due to the stat boost from Weather Wizard’s vengeance.

On turn 4, Domingo recruited Bizarro, ME AM BIZARRO #1, while Bertram played Ragdoll, Resilient Rogue. He formed in an L with Ragdoll protecting Stargirl. Domingo flipped Magical Lobotomy targeting Ted Grant and flipped it right back down. He then flipped Thanagarian Invasion and had Weather Wizard attack Ted Grant. Both stunned, and Weather Wizard wanted vengeance. Bizarro attacked Ragdoll, Resilient Rogue, and Bertram used his vengeance effect. Finally, Rose Psychic attacked Stargirl. Bertram lost Stargirl.

Bertram equipped Ragdoll with Helm of Nabu and recruited Amanda Waller with boost, put her ability on the stack, and teamed-up Checkmate and JSA with Checkmate Safe House, thus making it legal to put Wesley Dodds into play. Domingo recruited Ragman, Redeemer of Souls and formed with Weather Wizard protecting Bizarro. In combat, Weather Wizard exhausted to Wesley Dodds’s ability. Ragdoll attacked Weather Wizard and Bizarro reinforced. That move also boosted all of Domingo’s characters by +1 ATK / +1 DEF. Next, Ted Grant and Wesley Dodds team attacked Ragman. Domingo removed two characters in Bertram’s KO’d pile to give him two counters. Finally, Amada attacked Bizarro for a double stun. With the initiative, Rose attacked and stunned Wesley. Domingo kept Ragman and Rose Psychic, while Bertram’s board had Amanda Waller and Ragdoll. The endurance totals were Bertram’s 16 to Domingo’s 29.

On turn 6, Domingo recruited Dr. Psycho, Twisted Telepath, and Bertram had Jay Garrick ◊ The Flash in front of Ragdoll. Dr. Psycho’s ability brought the endurance totals down to 9 to 19. Domingo flipped Death from Above and Bertram conceded.
