The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Deck Profile: Chris Sizemore
Julia Hedberg

If you’re a Spider-Man fan, then you’ll probably like this deck—it’s crammed full of spidey goodness. Chris Sizemore built some interesting synergy into this deck designed to send a barrage of web-slinging action out onto the board. It relies on a multiude of Spider-Men (in all his identities), backed up by Scarlet Spider, Longshot, and Thinking Outside the Box just to make it even cleaner.

Let’s take a closer look at what Sizemore has going on. The drops start at 1, with Longshot, and then go up to 3, with both Spider-Man, New Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Sabretooth, Feral Rage brings in a crushing 4 drop, and Spider-Man, Alien Symbiote makes a good choice for 5 with evasion and worthy stats. The 6 drops are Sabretooth, Victor Creed and Scarlet Spider (key to the success of the deck), Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man fills the 7-drop spot, and the huge Spider-Man, Cosmic Spider-Man is the highest cost character.

Now, to the deck’s central combo. Scarlet Spider is a 6-drop, and when revealed from your hand, he makes all those Spider-Man characters no longer unique, enabling you to recruit an absolute horde of web-slingers. Since Spider-Man, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s effect prevents all Spider-Friends from being stunned when participating in a team attack, it’s a swarm worth reckoning with.

How are you going to get your hands on all those Spider-Man characters? Longshot’s effect will help you out. When activated, Longshot lets you name two cards, then flip over the top four cards of your deck. If both of the cards you named appear in any of the cards so revealed, you may take the cards you named and put them in your hand. Any remaining cards go to the bottom of your deck.

If you like knowing what you are going to draw before you draw it, then you can miss your call with Longshot and send all four cards to the bottom of your deck, at which point Thinking Outside the Box becomes exactly what you need—it makes you draw cards from the bottom of your deck, rather than the top. Sneaky.

Sizemore included Lost City, to boost power-ups for Brotherhood characters, and Avalon Space Station to return needed characters from the KO’d pile. Xavier’s School will ready Longshot when activated, enabling his effect to be used repeatedly.

Rounding out the deck, Sizemore added Nice Try! and Marvel Team-Up plot twists. Nice Try! will negate effects that target Spider-Friends characters you control (and if you’re making full use of Scarlet Spider, you should be controlling a lot of them), and Marvel Team-Up makes your Brotherhood and Spider-Friends share an affiliation. This will make the most out of the locations, as well as allowing more flexibility in team attacks and reinforcing.

It’s definitely an intriguing deck concept—you really can’t get a more intensive testing ground than a Pro Circuit, so it will be interesting to see how the deck holds up and where Sizemore goes with it.
