The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017
While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Sealed Pack Analysis: Emmanuel Nepomuceno |

Emmanuel is a third of the trio of Filipino players who made the pilgrimage down to this $10K tournament. Though he had just dropped a match to Wilfred Lau, Day 2 remained well within his sights with a 4-1 record.
Sealed Pack and Booster Draft are two sides of the same coin to Emmanuel. He explained that the difference is that you get the whole picture in Sealed, while in Draft you only catch drips and drabs. He likened Sealed to viewing an exhibit, and Draft to watching a movie.
“The importance of this,” he elaborated, “is that Sealed is far less complex, as you are able to evaluate your options with a higher level of knowledge than in Draft. However, in Draft, you only see part of the picture at any point, so you need to be more fluid.” He also thinks that Sealed is less complicated than Constructed, as you don’t have to bother with the metagame. You are less concerned with what other people are playing, and have to focus on getting your own deck to work.
Finally, Emmanuel said that he is fortunate to have a playtesting group that is strong in Sealed Pack. This allows them to learn from one another and become even better at the game.
This was the card pool Emmanuel had in the tournament:

Emmanuel felt his pool for this round of Sealed Pack play was rather poor. He commented, “The synergy in these packs is for the off-curve strategy. Cards like Dinah Laurel Lance ◊ Black Canary, Blonde Bombshell, Kooey Kooey Kooey, and Controller Sanction are very powerful, but have equally devastating costs. In this case, I do not have sufficient cards to support the strategy.”

Emmanuel noted that this is a slow deck that needs to go into the late game. He said that his characters have high defense, but are weak on the offense. He also commented that he would need to draw a lot of cards to be able to maximize the power of his deck. |
