Kerryn Rubin is an exceptionally nice guy among a lot of nice guys who currently make up the Vs. System community in Australia.
A Melbourne local and a relative newcomer to TCGs (picking them up about a year ago), Kerryn considers himself more of a Sealed Pack specialist than a Constructed guy.
He has one Top 4 and two top 8 finishes in PCQs, all in Sealed Pack, and writes a regular column for Australian website www.vsparadise.com called “Accept No Limits.”
Despite his preference for the Sealed Pack format and especially drafting, as of round 6, he’s doing very well with Curve Sentinels, sitting in sixth place with a 5-1 record.
Kerryn said he plays most of his Vs. System games at the Melbourne store Card Heaven, because it’s a good supporter of the game and the owners are “lovely people.”
His favorite team is Arkham Inmates and he plays a Arkham Inmates-Fearsome Five deck casually. He hasn’t risked taking the Inmates into a serious tournament, though, because of their lack of a search card.
Kerryn has a very calm approach to tournament play and Vs. in general.
“It’s a game and games are meant to be fun. Vs. in Australia has a great community, and most of us understand this,” he said.
Kerryn reckons that if he was a comic book character, he’d be DC Vertigo’s Jesse Custer (from Preacher) and if someone made a movie about his life, he’d be played by John Cusack because “he does quirky better than anyone else.”
That fits him to a tee.
