Mark has defied tradition by his mere presence here in the finals. He is the first foreigner to ever make the finals in a $10K hosted by another country.
The tension mounted palpably as supporters from each camp, Malaysia and Singapore, gathered around the feature match table to witness the clash of two countries. More than a championship was at stake here. This game carried connotations of national pride.
Game 1
Vincent won the die roll and chose the odd initiatives. Mark mulliganed.
Neither player had anything to play on the first turn.
Turn 2: Vincent played Captain Boomerang, George Harkness and flipped Criminal Mastermind.
Turn 3: Vincent recruited Floronic Man, Jason Woodrue, and had him in front of Captain Boomerang, George Harkness, while Mark had Aquaman, Arthur Curry. Vincent passed his attack, and Mark swung his character into Floronic Man. Vincent played Counterstrike for a double stun and flipped Death Trap targeting Aquaman. Endurance: Vincent 46, Mark 47.
Turn 4: Mark replayed Aquaman, Arthur Curry and had Gypsy in the hidden area. Vincent recruited Circe and protected her with Floronic Man. Aquaman attacked Floronic Man and Gypsy was returned to power him up. Mark also tried to remove the card in Vincent’s KO’d pile from the game, but Vincent KO’d Floronic Man to return the Counterstrike to his hand instead. With his quarry disappearing, Aquaman went after Circe instead, and With Prejudice gave Mark the double stun. Vincent revealed Injustice Gang Satellite and KO’d Aquaman before sending Captain Boomerang straight into Mark. Endurance: Vincent 46, Mark 47.
Turn 5: Vincent flipped Secret Files and searched for Scarecrow, Psycho Psychologist, which he recruited in front of Captain Boomerang. Mark did not manage to search out anything and recruited Oliver Queen ◊ Green Arrow, Hard-Traveling Hero. Vincent paid 3 endurance for Scarecrow’s ability at the beginning of combat. Scarecrow attacked Oliver Queen, to which Mark responded by playing Magnificent Seven in an attempt to stun Captain Boomerang. Vincent bounced the Captain back to his hand and used had Rallying Cry! to force the stun. Vincent then used Injustice Gang Satellite on Oliver Queen and swung Circe in. Endurance: Vincent 34, Mark 19.
Turn 6: Mark played Gorilla Grodd, while Vincent had Ocean Master. Gorilla Grodd swung into Scarecrow and Vincent flipped Counterstrike and discarded two cards to give Scarecrow a +1 ATK/+1 DEF counter. Mark powered his character up and Vincent discarded for another counter and the mutual stun. That was game.
Vincent 1 – Mark 0
Game 2
Mark chose the odd initiatives and kept his opening had. Vincent chose to mulligan.
Turn 1: Mark played Gypsy in the hidden area, while Vincent had Manhunter Clone. Mark passed the attack, and Manhunter Clone swung into Mark before evading to mill him. Endurance: Vincent 49, Mark 49.
Turn 2: Vincent failed to find his drop and Mark recruited Captain Boomerang, Digger. Captain Boomerang attacked the Clone and cleared the way for Gypsy to gimp a point of damage. Endurance: Vincent 45, Mark 49.
Turn 3: Mark played Shayera Thal ◊ Hawkwoman, while Vincent evaded Manhunter Clone to mill himself. He managed to put Zazzala ◊ Queen Bee into the KO’d pile, so he recurred her with Slaughter Swamp and recruited her. Mark’s characters smashed through the bee lady. Endurance: Vincent 37, Mark 49.
Turn 4: Vincent recruited Hector Hammond, Mind Over Matter, who protected the Clone. Zazzala was placed beside the Clone. Mark brought Oliver Queen ◊ Green Arrow, Emerald Archer into play, and had him in front of Shayera Thal in an “L” formation. Zazzala attacked Oliver Queen, and Vincent played All Too Easy. Mark powered up his character and brought him out of Zazzala’s range. Zazzala stunned. Hector Hammond attacked Captain Boomerang, and Mark removed his counter before allowing him to stun. He then paid 2 endurace for Oliver Queen to KO Manhunter Clone, and Vincent evaded the character to mill Mark first. Finally, Vincent was done, and Oliver Queen attacked Hector Hammond for a mutual stun. Mark lost Captain Boomerang while Vincent lost Zazzala. Endurance: Vincent 22, Mark 37.
Turn 5: Mark under-dropped with Dr. Sivana and equipped Oliver Queen with Nth Metal. He had the doctor behind Oliver in an “L” formation. Vincent played Scarecrow, Psycho Psychologist and formed him in front of Hector Hammond. Mark passed on his attack. Scarecrow ran into Oliver Queen for a double stun before Hector Hammond attacked down and stunned Dr. Sivana. Vincent recurred Prometheus with Slaughter Swamp, while Mark lost Dr. Sivana. Endurance: Vincent 17, Mark 27.
Turn 6: Vincent recruited Hal Jordan, Hard-Traveling Hero, and Mark had Gorilla Grodd. Before combat, Mark flipped Gang-Up to team up SS and GL. Hector Hammond attacked the Hawkwoman, and Gorilla Grodd reinforced her. Next, Hal attacked Gorilla Grodd, and Mark returned Gypsy to power up his character. Vincent flipped Rallying Cry! to force the mutual stun and used Death Trap to send Gorilla Grodd back. The only thing Mark could do with the initiative was to have Oliver Queen attack Scarecrow for a double stun. Mark lost Shayera Thal and Vincent lost Scarecrow. Endurance: Vincent 5, Mark 13.
Turn 7: Mark played Membership Drive for Rama Khan and recruited him behind Oliver Queen. Vincent had Prometheus in front of Hector Hammond in an “L” formation. Rama Khan attacked Hal and Vincent flipped Counterstrike and discarded a card to give Rama –2 DEF. Mark powered up before allowing the double stun. He had no further attacks. Next, Prometheus attacked Oliver Queen and discarded a card to give Oliver –2 DEF. Mark scooped.
Vincent 2 – Mark 0
Vincent wins $10K Kuala Lumpur!
Spectators who had been following Vincent’s matches commented that most of his games were won on the strength of Injustice Gang Satellite, which is one of the most broken cards in draft. They also said that his deck was extremely synergistic with plenty of IG characters and Criminal Mastermind, which powers his Satellite and Scarecrow, Psycho Psychologist. |
