The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Weekly Vs. System Update
Scott Gaeta

For almost as long as the super hero comic book has been around, special events have been a regular part of the reading experience. Back in the ‘40s and ’50s, these events were relatively simple. They were usually something as basic as a guest appearance, and they rarely lasted for more than an issue or two. But back then, just the thrill of seeing two of your favorite heroes together in one book was good enough. Team books and “Team-Up”-type titles were the next logical step. Now you could get a regular dose of your favorite heroes taking villains that neither one of them could defeat alone.

Eventually, comic book writers began to create even bigger threats that one single hero—or even a team of heroes—wouldn’t be able to take down without lots of help. Whether it was an invasion of Skrulls, the coming of Galactus, or a Crisis of some sort, there were some bad guys so bad that multiple heroes and their teams needed to band together to defeat the common foe.

Vs. System is going to evolve in much the same way. Since the beginning, players have constructed their decks based around their favorite teams. These teams then squared off against one another in typical comic book fashion. But now I’m here to tell you that a new threat is on the horizon. Never before in the history of Vs. System has there been cause for multiple teams to band together to defeat a common foe. For the first time, you may see the Joker and his Arkham Inmates fighting side by side with Batman and his team of Gotham Knights, or you may even see the X-Men join forces with the Brotherhood.

An event of this size can’t be contained by a mere expansion, and it’s too powerful to be made into an Essential Collection. For a threat like this, we’re going to need something new. Something big . . .
