Round 9: Yeo Leck Khoon vs. Julian Kong
Nick Wong

Yeo Leck Khoon from Singapore is running a Curve Sentinels deck. His opponent, Julian Kong form Malaysia, is playing Common Enemy. Leck Khoon kept a sub-optimal opening hand, while Julian’s was nearly perfect. By the time Leck Khoon looked like he might be back in the game, he had a Mark V and a freshly recruited Nimrod on turn 5. This still looked poor, as he was facing down Dr. Doom, Diabolic Genius, She-Hulk, She-Thing, and Thing, Heavy Hitter. Nimrod lost his counter to the Thing, and the turn ended with Leck Khoon’s and Julian’s life totals at 23 to 42, respectively. Bastion joined the Sentinels on turn 6, while Julian recruited the Hulk. Not wanting the Sentinels to recover, Julian team-attacked Bastion with the Hulk and She Thing. Leck Khoon tried to prevent Bastion’s loss by flipping up two Cover Fires and powering up twice, but he was forced to change his plans when the Hulk did a Savage Beatdown. Using Bastion, Leck Khoon powered up Hulk and attempted an Overload, but that plan was foiled when Julian flipped a resource, bringing the Hulk back out of Overload range. The rest of the turn was easy-peasy for Julian,as he stunned Leck Khoon’s Nimrod with the Thing and the Mark V with Doom, leaving She-Hulk to impose a Savage Beatdown on Leck Khoon for the win.
