Round 12: Florent Jeudon vs. Dair Grant
Metagame Staff

It was that time of the day—elimination time. Both of these people were well-respected TCG players, so they had been in this type of spot before. With both players at 6-5, the winner of this match would have to wake up early, while the other player could drown his sorrows later tonight.

Florent won the flip and took the first initiative, and Dair had to mulligan. The first turn passed uneventfully, but Florent played Blade, Eric Brooks on turn 2 after Dair had passed, showing Luke Cage, Power Man. On the third turn, Dair flashed Ricochet before realizing that it was Florent’s initiative and not his.

“Oops, giving you free information. It felt like your turn!”

Florent sunk into thought for a while before playing Daredevil, Protector of Hell’s Kitchen, and then Dair played Ricochet after all. Daredevil attacked Ricochet, with Florent activating the character’s power in order to get the stun. Blade came in for some breakthrough endurance loss after that, dropping the American to 40 endurance.

Julia Carpenter ◊ Spider-Woman was Dair’s recruit for the fourth turn, while Florent played Puma. Dair then flipped over Spider-Tracer on Daredevil. Julia Carpenter prepared to beat down on Daredevil, making short work of the man. Ricochet stunned Blade in the subsequent attack. Puma then attacked Blade, making the endurance totals 35 to 42 in the Frenchman’s favor.

On the fifth turn, Florent flipped over Wild Ride, fetching Daredevil, Matt Murdock for his recruit. Midnight Sons made sure that Marvel Knights and Spider-Friends could team attack on the French side. Dair had Daredevil, The Man Without Fear to recruit, and he awaited the Frenchman’s attack. Puma took down a reinforced Ricochet, and Daredevil took on Julia Carpenter. By the end of the turn, the endurance totals were at 27 for Dair and 34 for Florent.

On turn 6, Mattie Franklin ◊ Spider-Woman made an appearance on Dair’s side, much to his enjoyment. Florent discarded Dagger, Child of Light to fetch another copy of Midnight Sons, and then Luke Cage, Power Man came down for Florent. Dair flipped Spider-Tracer on Luke Cage, and then Mattie Franklin attacked him. Dair managed to flip four of his resources to give Franklin +4 ATK and +4 DEF. Florent powered-up Luke Cage and reinforced him. Dair played Twist of Fate to pick up Scarlet Spider, and then the two superheroes stunned each other. Daredevil battled with Puma, and two power-ups for the Frenchman and one for the American made sure that Daredevil ended up stunned. Julia Carpenter took down a reinforced Blade, and the Frenchman retaliated by attacking Carpenter with Daredevil. A Tragic Loss made sure that Daredevil wouldn’t survive the attack, and both characters were stunned. After this savage attack, endurance totals were at 11 for Dair and 21 for Florent.

On the final turn, Spider-Man, The Amazing Spiderman came down for both players, and the situation became complicated. Florent exhausted Mattie Franklin, and Dair exhausted Puma so Florent wouldn’t have to think about attacking with that one. The two Spideys battled, and a Head Shot for Florent finished it up in his favor.

Florent Jeudon wins the match and advances to Day 2.
