The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Round 7: David Leader vs. Bulk Lao
Anand Khare

If you have been keeping up with the coverage, or with the game of Vs. System in general, you are already quite familiar with David Leader. His opponent, Bulk Lao, is a player of similar caliber. Bulk is a consistent finisher at PCs and also has a $10K top 8. Both players have one loss going into the feature match. Please excuse the excessive coverage of David Leader’s matches—here he is doing his best impression of a handstand in an attempt to keep the attention of you, our loyal readers.

Lao won the die roll and chose evens. He mulliganed, while David kept his hand. Lao was not happy with his new hand; “I lose,” he declared. Leader played Mikado and Mosha on turn 1, which beat into Lao’s empty board. Lao again had no play on turn 2, while Leader continued to curve out with Hounds of Ahab. Again, he attacked into Lao’s empty board.

Leader started off turn 3 with his optimal Elektra, Elektra Natchios, revealing Yelena Belova ◊ Black Widow. Lao finally had a play in Sentinel Mark II. Leader attacked into the Mark II with his Elektra. “Since I’m going to lose anyway . . . I might as well try to save myself.” He powered up Sentinel Mark II twice and then used Reconstruction Program to do it again. Leader had the Crime and Punishment. Bad times for Bulk. He lost his robot, and play moved to turn 4

Lao played a Sentinel Mark V on turn 4, while Leader had the previously revealed Yelena. Mark V went to town on Mikado, but Leader struck back with Crushing Blow on Yelena to KO the Mark V. But Lao scraped back onto the board a little, using Flame Trap to stun Leader’s Hounds and Betrayal to get Yelena.

Leader played Daredevil, Matt Murdock on turn 5, while Lao had Sentinel Mark V with boost. Leader steamrolled over Lao and his sad little board, bringing him down to a mere 11 endurance. Leader finished up the turn by playing Quick Kill on the Mark V to keep Lao’s board clean.

Lao had Bastion on 6, but it didn’t appear to be enough. Leader had Luke Cage, Street Enforcer, and he used Daredevil’s ability to “save time” and move everything to the hidden area. Lao had no other play but to attack Leader directly. He didn’t have nearly enough to bring Leader to 0, and most of Leader’s board beat back into Bastion. Yelena attacked directly to seal the deal.

David Leader wins!
