The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Drafting with Neil Reeves
Anand Khare

Neil 3-0’d the top draft pod, one of the best I have ever seen. So, I thought I would cover his Top 8 draft to see if he would offer a repeat performance and take down the $10K. Neil went into the draft trying to force Injustice Gang—not a popular strategy, to say the least. He was being passed to by Nick Little, his friend and dedicated barn. Following are Neil’s picks; the first card is the card he selected and the others are alternate choices that he passed on.

Pack 1

Death Trap, Bizarro Ray, Rallying Cry!, UN Building

Injustice Gang Satellite, Gorilla Grodd, Sinister Citadel

Copperhead, Vicarious Living, With Prejudice, Shadow-Thief

IQ, Gang-Up

Insectoid Troopers, Magnificent Seven, Disband the League, Captain Atom

James Jesse ◊ Trickster; Floronic Man, Jason Woodrue; Silver Sorceress

All Too Easy, The Mist, Abra Kadabra

The Shark, Karshon; Infestation; Midnight Cravings; Prometheus

Zazzala ◊ Queen Bee, UN Building

Tattooed Man, Living Ink; Illusionary Warriors

Shadow-Thief

Conscription

Satellite HQ

Funeral for a Friend

After this pack, Neil was straight Injustice Gang—an interesting strategy, to be sure. He had only one character with cost 4 or more, so perhaps he was trying to go off-curve, as well.

Pack 2

Martian Manhunter, J’onn J’onzz; Infernal Minions; The Joker, Headline Stealer; Reform the League; UN Recognition; The Mist

Slaughter Swamp; Lex Luthor, Evil Incorporated; With Prejudice; Scarecrow; Gang-Up

Gorilla City, Prometheus, Shadow-Thief, IQ, Justice League of Arkham

Ultra-Humanite, The Wizard

Circe, Vicarious Living, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Bulletproof

Remoni-Notra ◊ Star Sapphire, Zamoran Champion; Mysterious Benefactor

Plasma Blast, Queen of Fables, Bizarro Ray

Funky’s Big Rat Code, Midnight Cravings

Captain Boomerang, “Digger”; Infernal Minions; Booster Gold

Professor Ivo

Shadow-Thief

Wall of Will

Crisis on Infinite Earths

Token Resistance

Neil had beefed up his curve a bit, and it was clear that he was going for a curve strategy supplemented by Army Injustice Gang characters. At the end of the second pack, it looked like Neil was looking for a few more Army characters, a few more Team-Ups, a 4-drop, and a 6-drop.

Pack 3

Death Trap; Gang-Up; Deadshot; Scarecrow, Fearmonger

Hector Hammond, Mind Over Matter; Booster Gold; Quadromobile; Justice League Task Force

Poison Ivy, Kiss of Death; Plasma Blast

Evan McCulloch ◊ Murder Master; Mark Desmond ◊ Blockbuster; Bulletproof

Martian Manhunter, Manhunter from Mars; Evan McCulloch ◊ Murder Master

Illusionary Warriors, World’s Greatest Heroes

Lex Luthor, Evil Incorporated; High-Tech Flare Gun; Creeping Doom; Shadow-Thief; Staged Attack

Balance of Power

Deadshot; Sam Scudder, Mirror Master

Resistance is Useless; Die for Darkseid!; Batman, Avatar of Justice

Funky Flashman

Dinah Laurel Lance ◊ Black Canary, Blonde Bombshell

Manhunter Clone

Rama Khan

Neil’s final deck is a solid Injustice Gang/Secret Society combo, utilizing a full curve as well as the Injustice 1-drop strategy. He has a number of powerful plot twists, including two copies of Death Trap. Neil thinks that he has a good chance of repeating his 3-0 performance and taking home the trophy.
