The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Deep has been playing Vs System for about 18 months, and is known for his freakishly successful — and conspicuously unique — drafting style in his hometown of Sydney. While he’s never won a major event outright, he’s a solid, peripheral PCQ player. Plus, on the dance floor, his silky looks and smooth moves make him popular amongst the ladies! Is today the day for Deep to prove himself, and earn the title he deserves?

As a former Yu-Gi-Oh! player, what’s been the biggest difference between the two games?

In Yu-Gi-Oh! a single card can swing the direction of the game (ala, Chaos Emperor Dragon / Yata). In Vs it’s not quite as bad; there are cards that hurt decks specifically but it doesn’t put the player in an unwinnable position.

What card would you bring from Yu-Gi-Oh! into Vs if you could?

A Mystic Tomato/Giant Rat-esque searcher would be nice. I think Chameleon is the closest.

Alex Antonios’ hairdo. What's your take on that, and would you consider wearing your hair in a similar fashion?

That’s some seriously whacky hair. Maybe it’s the secret to his winning streak . . . a la Samson (ED: Deep is the second interviewee to liken Alex to Sampson!). As for wearing my hair in a similar fashion . . . Ah Heck no!!!

Best deck in Silver Age at the moment?

KreeMate (Kree & Checkmate). I mean, with a name like that, how could it not be the best! Nah, seriously, I think “Eat Kree Or Die” is very consistent in assembling its components for the kill turn. The consistency makes for a very solid deck choice. Although the same can be said for Good Guys, I think it’s hated against a fair bit now.

Best deck you've ever built?

My Checkmate deck which contained almost every, Silver Age-legal team in the Vs universe. I mean the deck wasn’t great, but it was fun to play all the random dudes together in a deck!

Best player you've ever played against?

Alex Brown; always fun beating him in sealed.

Most fun game you've ever played?

Round 1 versus Troy in the Brisbane $10K this year. As soon as I saw the pairings, I new the game would be interesting, at least, as we both knew each others decks inside out. I think the most used phrase that game by the two of us was, "You got it?" which was usually followed by a feeling of either relief of dismay. It was a tough and fun game at the same time.

What are you looking for in Legions?

The Substitute mechanic. New mechanics, new ideas, and more prospects for decks — always good.

Best dressed Vs player?

AJ. I mean with those super-short shorts and that aristocratic hair . . . there’s no competition!!

Favorite Vs card? Why?

Magneto, Master of Magnetism. Great art, awesome effect and good stats. He hits the field and like this target appears on his head which your opponent can’t ignore. Reminds me of the World of Warcraft Hunter's Mark!

What are your thoughts on PC Sydney? Are you qualified? Can an Australasian player win it?

PC Sydney! Man, finally we get one! It’s great for those who can’t fork out the money to travel to the US. Gives us a chance to see how we fare at that level of competition. I’m not qualified yet; still need 2 points I think. Come on Top 24!!! Let’s hope that an Australasian wins it. The play skills certainly aren’t lacking, just a matter of time and commitment.

Who and what deck is going to win this thing?

KreeMate — no question about it. Sorry, couldn’t resist. I think a version of Kree or Lost in Space will take it.
