Man, it’s tough to build a Sealed Pack deck.
You go to a PCQ, you get some cards, and you have to sculpt them into a deck. You’re all alone, despite the room full of people. The only “help” you get comes in the form of your own second (and third) guesses as you look over your card pool, trying to isolate not just the thirty strongest cards, but the thirty cards strongest in concert with one another.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been bisecting the Web of Spider-Man set for Sealed Pack play. We examined plot twists and each of the major affiliations. Last week, two-time Sealed Pack PCQ winner Steve Sadin looked at an actual winning decklist with me.
We’re going to be moving on to Superman: Man of Steel previews next week, but before we leave the friendly neighborhoods of Manhattan for the legendary backdrop of Metropolis, I wanted to tackle an actual Sealed Pack card pool and break down how I’d build the deck.
Alone.
In a room without any people (aside from the background chatter of Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser), and with plenty of second, third, and even fourth guesses.
Here’s the pool of cards that we get to work with.
