The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Player Profile: Mark Slack
Michael Palmer

Mark Slack has been a well-known player in the Vs. System world since the game’s inception, and with a second place finish at Pro Circuit Los Angeles 2004, Mark solidified himself as one of the game’s most respected players. Mark is one of many Pro Circuit regulars playing in the $10K today.

What was your finishing record yesterday in the Pro Circuit?

I went 3-5 and dropped. In round 6, I had to play against Jason Dawson, who was playing X-Mental. I was playing our version of the discard deck and he went Beast on turn 3 and Professor X on turn 4 and there was no way I could win.

What deck did you play yesterday?

The Justice League of Arkham deck, except we curved out instead of using weenies. Scarecrow and Godfrey on turn 5, Gorilla Grodd on 6, and Ultra-Humanite on turn 7.

What do you think of The Killing Joke deck?

I don’t particularly like it and I would guess that UDE is probably going to do something about it because it’s not fun to play against at all. It’ll get to the point where you’re either playing the discard deck or playing the anti-discard deck.

What do you think of the Mexican Equipment deck?

I don’t know much about it, but from what Kim and Vidi did with it yesterday, it looks good.

Who do you think has the best shot at winning the Pro Circuit this weekend?

Not knowing much about Kim’s deck, I’d say she’s got a good chance. Gabe Walls has a good chance; Karl Horn has a good chance. Vidi has a good chance. Depending on the deck that Kim and Vidi are running, if it’s that good against discard, then it’s probably what’s going to win.

What kind of deck did you choose to build this morning?

It pretty much put itself together. The Shadowpact was completely awful and the other three teams were just enough to build a deck. It pretty much fell together with just three teams. I’ve got three Team-Ups that are run to use effects, and I’ve got a lot of boost effects around turn 4. The teams are Checkmate, Villains United, and JSA, basically.

What do you think is the best card from Infinite Crisis?

For Constructed, Ahmed Samsarra is ridiculous. For Sealed, you can’t go wrong with I Still Hate Magic!, but if you’re running JSA, then Michael Holt ◊ Mr. Terrific, Renaissance Man is pretty ridiculous.

How do you predict your day will end?

My deck is good; I think it’s a 4-1. It’s just unfortunate that that one loss came in the first round. But with a loss here, it really depends on the quality of that second Sealed deck.

Sitting down with Mark was a pleasure. He’s gearing up for round 2 and seems eager to make it through the day. Check back to see if his predictions come true.
