The Sydney $10K has finally come to a close! It’s been a long, tough, and quite diverse road to the top, but in the end, it was Kakarot Turker of team The Four Horsemen who took the trophy home to display proudly on his mantle . . . or playmat . . . or poker table? Somewhere, anyway; regardless of where it sits, it will be a constant reminder of the day when, after almost a year of multiple $10K Top 8s, and several very close calls, Kakarot finally got the number one spot he has rightly earned.
Kakarot, with his Ronan Plan deck (a Lost In Space variant, all teched-out), took out first-time Top 8’er Michael Lou, whose ridiculously inventive THE Skrull deck lost only one game on day 1. For two games, Michael fought and for two games he was denied, as, in the end, Kakarot’s experience, skill, and inventive tech got the better of him. The top-table newcomer, however, is to be congratulated on his incredibly powerful, classic-Vs. style Beats deck, which I’m sure will be an inspiration to other players in this fast-moving metagame. If anything, it underlines that, in Silver Age, anything really is possible, and nothing but nothing is a sure thing.
Congratulations go out to all players this weekend, especially Kakarot Turker, winner of $10K Sydney for 2006.
