The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017
While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Sealed Pack Analysis: Lee Keng Yin |

Keng Yin entered the tournament with those in the know having their bets on him. Not only is he the highest ranked Sealed Pack player present, he also finished second at the recent $10K Singapore and won last month’s JLA Sealed Pack PCQ.
On the seven hour train ride from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Keng Yin managed to squeeze in two Sealed Pack practice attempts with teammate, Yap Jing Yang (Singapore’s top Constructed player). These are some opinions on playing Sealed in the current expansion that he shared with us:
“Sealed is fairly standard. You try to go with the two best team affiliations you open. Occasionally this isn’t possible, and you’ve got to add a third. You’ve got to be careful when you do this, though, as you’re going to encounter problems team attacking and reinforcing. Unlike draft, it is rather difficult to get a synergistic deck in Sealed, due to the increased randomness of the card pool you’ve got to work with. For the most part, I would say that games are decided on the average power level of the card pool you get.”
Though we grilled him thoroughly over his stellar Sealed Pack record despite his attribution of success to blind luck, he would only say, “It’s my trade secret.”
By the end of the journey, the only concession we could wring from him was a cryptic, “I always choose consistency over quirky tricks.”
This was the card pool Keng Yin had in the tournament:

Keng Yin felt that his card pool was good. Though lacking in bombs, the average strength of his cards were above average. He had excellent plot twists, but only a single team-up, World’s Greatest Heroes, which limited him to JLA and JLI.
In addition, Keng Yin only had six JLA characters, which reduced the strength of The Watchtower. He was also disappointed to only have a single seven drop, Rama Khan, who happens to be unaffiliated to boot.

Keng Yin’s deck was built around World’s Greatest Heroes. He said that if he had generic team-ups, he might have tried going with SS or IG. However, since this was what he was passed, it seemed to the most viable option for him. He played every single JLA and JLI character he opened.
As far as plot twists go, Keng Yin simply threw the best six into his deck and filled the rest of the space with locations and equipment. He only played a single copy of The Watchtower, as he did not have sufficient JLI characters to justify the additional copy. |
