In the early rounds of this $10K, it was already clear that there was plenty of tech coming to the forefront here in Germany. As early as round one I witnessed a JLA/JLI deck demolishing Sentinels thanks to more Ally power-ups than really seems fair.
Just a few tables down, a wily Big Brotherhood player looked to take a similar approach with his opponent’s Teen Titans. With both Poison Ivy, Kiss of Death to find locations and Nth Metal to ensure extra power-ups, the Brotherhood looked bigger than ever. They fell, though, to Betrayal, which has seen a small resurgence in popularity as players start looking to splash more and more powerful characters in their decks.
In round 2, the innovative French Anti-Matter deck featuring Anti-Green Lanterns aplenty looked to have wrapped things up against Sentinels, but fell a single point of endurance short for the win in spite of some very nifty tricks involving Chomin, Qwardian Spy and Xallarap, who just kept trying to die in order to live a little bit longer.
The JLA/JLI continued to have an exciting time of it, facing down ‘Funky’s Hood,’ an innovative Secret Society/Brotherhood deck, that fills the KO’d pile only to make Avalon Space Station that much more powerful. With Salvage, Quadromobile and Straight to the Grave action going on too, the deck appears to have some real power if it can put all the pieces together.
