Semifinals: Steven Anderson vs. Michael Higgins
Jason Grabher-Meyer

Game One:

Higgins won the flip and took initiative on odd turns.  Higgins mulliganed.

Turn one, Higgins played a Boris and attacked Anderson for 1.

Anderson opened up turn two by recruiting Pyro to the support row, and Higgins passed.  Pyro attacked Boris and Anderson fliped up New Brotherhood and Savage Land, targeting Pyro with the boost.  Higgins chained Doomstadt to activate Boris in response and took an Overload into his hand.  Score was 46 to 49 in favor of Anderson.

Turn three, Higgins recruited She-Hulk to his front row which Anderson matched with an attack row Rogue.  She-Hulk attacked Rogue with a Clobberin’ Time and Anderson responded with another New Brotherhood, causing both characters to stun.  Anderson then attacked with a Savage Landed Pyro for 9.

Anderson opened turn four by recruiting Quicksilver, and using two Surprise Attacks.  Higgins recruited a Doctor Doom into the attack row and reformed to protect She-Hulk, but Doom wasn’t enough to block Anderson’s Rogue with flight.  Anderson then activated both Pyro and Quicksilver to deal direct damage to Higgins, who answered with an Overload against Quicksilver and a Doom attack against Pyro.  Anderson recovered Rogue, losing Quicksilver and Pyro, while Higgins recovered She-Hulk.

Higgins flipped a Common Enemy and recruited Thing, Heavy Hitter to the attack row, hiding Doom behind it.  Anderson took some time considering, and then announced his decision to not play a resource.  He recruited one Avalanche and used its effect to KO Doomstadt, then recruited a second Avalanche to replace the exhausted one.  Higgins attacked with She-Hulk against Avalanche.  He then used an in-hand Faces of Doom to pull a second Diabolic Genius.  The on-field Doctor Doom then attacked Rogue, and Higgins flipped up another Doomstadt and gave Doom a power up, clearing the field for Thing, Heavy Hitter with three Clobberin’ Times for game!

Game one goes to Michael Higgins.

Game Two:

Anderson took initiative on odd numbered turns, and mulliganed.  Higgins kept his opening hand.

Anderson started with a front row Destiny, and Higgins passed.

On turn two Higgins recruited a Boris, and Anderson flipped up a New Brotherhood and had Destiny attack Boris.  He flipped up his set Savage Land and activated it on Destiny.

Anderson recruited Quicksilver to his front row, and after examining his downs Higgins recruited a Darkoth and protected Boris.  Destiny attacked Darkoth, and Anderson made her a 5/0 with Savage Land, but Higgins responded with Overload and Destiny stunned.  Anderson attacked Darkoth with Quicksilver and both characters were stunned, setting the score at 41 to 45 in favor of Anderson.

Higgins recruited a Doctor Doom, Diabolic Genius and used him to protect Darkoth, leaving Boris in the back row undefended.  Anderson recruited a Sabretooth, Feral Rage and reformed to protect Quicksilver.  Higgins activated Boris’ effect and pulled a Mystical Paralysis.  Higgins then attacked the Feral Rage with Doctor Doom, and Anderson responded by powering him up, leaving Higgins to chain a Savage Beatdown – both characters stun but both are recovered and nothing is KOd.

Anderson started turn five by recruiting Magneto, and Higgins flipped up a Common Enemy and recruited She-Thing and Boris.  Anderson started his combat by exhausting She-Thing with Magneto’s effect, and then announced an attack from Sabretooth against Doctor Doom.  Higgins responded with a Mystical Paralysis on Sabretooth to prevent the attack.  Quicksilver attacked Boris forcing Higgins to use the search effect to grab a Clobberin’ Time.  Magneto then attacked Darkoth with a double-Savage Landed Magneto, flipping up a second New Brotherhood which now functions since the first Savage Land was KOd.  Quicksilver then activated for five damage.

Higgins recruited Hulk, New Fantasic Four, and Anderson set a resource, recruits Destiny, and marked She-Thing with her effect.  He recruited another Destiny, reformed, and passed to Higgins who attempted to Overload Destiny, but misplayed since Anderson’s two New Brotherhoods were negated by his five-resource row.  She-Thing attacked with a power-up, Anderson powered up Quicksilver, and Higgins responded with another power up to She-Thing.  Anderson flipped up a Savage Land, Koing his other Savage Land and reactivating the two New Brotherhoods, but Higgins Overloaded the Quicksilver in glib response.  Doom attacked Sabretooth and both characters were stunned.  Hulk attacked Magneto with a Clobberin’ time and Anderson took 13 damage.  She-Thing attacked Destiny and both characters were again stunned, but Higgins took the Destiny damage from her effect.  Darkoth swung for 11.  Higgins recovered Doctor Doom and Anderson recovered Sabretooth.

Anderson recruited another Magneto, and before playing his resource Higgins plays another Common enemy to draw another card.  He recruited a Thing, Ever-Lovin’ Blue Eyed Thing.  Magneto exhausted Doctor Doom and then declared an attack against Darkoth.  Anderson Savage Lands the Magneto and then Kabooms the Savage Land to reactivate the two New Brotherhoods, buffing Magneto by nine attack.  Higgins drops to negative 10 and Anderson sits at 2.  Sabretooth attacks with a fifteen attack, and Higgins responds with an Acrobatic Dodge.  Anderson responds with two Not So Fast, but Higgins plays another Acrobatic Dodge, and after looking at the field plays a third to save the threatened Thing.  Thing then attacked Sabretooth, and Hulk swung for 12, ending the game and match in Higgins’ favor.
