There is more at stake here in Bologna than the $10,000 prize money that will be divided among the top twenty players. The top ten players will receive Pro Circuit invitations.
Although these invitations can be used for any future Pro Circuit stop, they will probably be used on the next. In several weeks we will have the very first European Pro Circuit stop in the lovely city of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.
If you haven’t marked it on your calendar, make sure you have April 7-10 put aside for Vs. System. If you can make it to Amsterdam, you simply must do so. Even if you don’t have an invitation for the big tournament, there is so much to see and do at a Pro Circuit event.
Apart from checking out the smaller side events—and collecting those GCPD Officers—there are a lot of interesting things going on at the Pro Circuit. For starters, the format is Marvel Modern Age. If you have no clue what Marvel Modern Age is, I suggest you check out Jeff Donais’ letter right here. In a room full of decks built with Web of Spider-Man and Marvel Knights cards, you should get a good idea of what decks to look out for the next Pro Circuit qualifying season.
You might want to hunt down Danny Mandel, Dave Humphreys, or the rest of the R&D crew, and try to trick them into telling you how exactly your favorite yet-to-be-printed character will come out. Or, you might want to give Jeff Donais a few ideas on how to improve the Vs. System tournament structure. Or you might have an amazing and instructive weekend just watching the best players in the world play. Find out what makes Rob Leander, Ryan Jones, and the rest of the well-known players pile up the great results.
Leading up to Pro Circuit Amsterdam, there are still at least two major European events. $10K London will occur on March 20 and $10K Madrid will happen on March 26. If any of them, or a “smaller” Pro Circuit Qualifier, is within your reach, don’t miss out. Not only will you have a great time playing Vs. System, you will also get a taste of things to come at Pro Circuit Amsterdam.
