With two rounds down and eight to go, the field is taking shots at itself, and only the strong survive. While some of our headhunter targets have already cost T.O. Jeff Williams a few boosters, Rob Leander and Ryan Jones are off and running. There are 34 undefeated players left out of a field of 137. Soon, there will only be seventeen.
Table 1: Joseph Carey vs. TJ Holman
Joseph Carey knows Medium Brotherhood. He played it at PC Indy. He played it at PC LA. He made the Top 8 at $10K Texas. Now, he’s playing it here and is off to a 2-0 start. Unfortunately, Joseph’s undefeated run took a hit this round when he met up with TJ Holman and the Teen Titans. Holman needed six turns to finish the job, but Carey admitted he was dead to rights on turn three. “I flipped Kaboom!, he flipped Fizzle. Game over.” TJ became the first player to collect a bounty on Joseph.
Table 2: Matthew Meyer vs. Marty Mathis
In a matchup pairing two guys with comic book names, Meyer and Mathis fought a hard eight turn battle that saw Marty’s Dr. Doom, Lord of Latveria and Thing, Heavy Hitter carry Common Enemy to victory over Meyer’s rogue Spider-Friends deck “Tag, You’re It!” Like TJ Holman, Mathis’s continued good fortune was made a little sweeter by the taste of Meyer’s bounty.
Table 4: Job Figueroa vs. Colby Robinson
As much pressure as the hunted were feeling, it was nothing compared to what Figueroa felt. Sitting across the table from him was nine-year-old Colby Robinson, who while looking a little less intimidating than your average opponent, brought with him the potential stigma involved with losing to “a kid.” In a match that went a tough six turns, Job and his Brave and the Bold deck was able to take out Colby’s FF Beats, with multiple copies of Teen Titans Go! getting credit for the win.
Table 14: Rob Leander vs. Anabel Mendez-liz
The mighty Leander and Teen Titans did it again, with Anabel apparently drawing each piece of the curve a turn too late—Sentinel Mark III on turn 3 and Sentinel Mark II on turn 4. Only Bastion came into play, but by then it was too late, as the Titans swarmed over the 23-year old New Yorker, leaving the endurance totals at 35 to negative 10.
