For this first Legion of Super Heroes draft, I sat down with Billy “The Thinker” Postlethwait. Billy’s at the second of three Draft tables and likely needs to sport a record of 2-1 or 3-0 to clinch a Top 8 berth. I’ve recorded Billy’s picks; the card he actually took are listed first, and other notable cards in the pack (if any) are listed afterwards.

Well . . . this makes things easy. It’s abundantly clear that Billy came into this draft with the plan of forcing a Teen Titans substitute strategy. He certainly got a good start in this pack, with ten solid cards for his deck. Missing at the moment, though, are a few hallmark cards of the archetype—3-drop Beast Boy, a Dove to go with his Hawk, and additional tricks.

“I was trying to force Titans . . . pretty obvious, I first picked this,” said Billy, picking up The Herald. “It’s a good thing, too; I only have three 4-drops.” Billy laid out his deck, revealing an excellent curve of Teen Titans substitute characters. Deckbuilding was extremely straightforward—the only splash cards were Umbra and Superboy, Yellow Sun Armor. I usually include more commentary here, but everything in this draft seems to have been done by the book. Here’s how Billy’s final deck turned out:

I guess there is one anomaly. Somehow, Tamaranian Garden didn’t make the cut. “I’d only use it on turn 1,” explained Billy. He seemed very confident about his chances of making Top 8. “I can 3-0 with this, for sure.”
