The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Round 4: Vidianto Wijaya vs. Zintis May-Krumins
Anand Khare

This match pits Vidianto Wijaya, undisputedly the best player in the world, against Zintis May-Krumins, a New Jersey local who is just getting back into the game. Zintis is good, though, and if anyone can take down this powerhouse, he can. An additional note on features—I probably won’t feature Vidi more than one more time today, quite simply because I’ll probably feature him numerous times tomorrow.

Vidi won the die roll and selected the odd initiatives. He mulliganed his opener, and Zintis kept. Both players missed their 1-drops, and Zintis kicked things off with a turn 2 Lieutenant Kona Lor. Vidi missed again, and Zintis attacked in with help from Battleworld. Vidi made his first play of the game on turn 3 with Plasma, which he equipped with Mind Gem. Zintis under-dropped with San in front of Kona Lor. Plasma attacked San, and Zintis simply reinforced.

Turn 4 was Zintis’s initiative, and he recruited Ethan Edwards in front of Kona Lor. Vidi recruited Dewoz in front of Plasma, and then passed. In combat, Zintis attempted to send San and Kona Lor into Dewoz. The attack was legal, and Vidi paid 2 endurance to move both of his characters to the support row of his hidden area. Zintis used Battleworld, and Vidi allowed the stun. Ethan Edwards attacked directly for 10, and Zintis passed. Before attacking back, Vidi flipped The Herald Ordeal to team-up Heralds of Galactus and Inhumans. Plasma took down San, and in recovery, Vidi discarded a Tonaja to his Team-Up to gain 2 endurance. In recovery, Zintis led 43-33.

On turn 5, Vidi played Lockjaw, Inhuman’s Best Friend in his hidden area. He discarded a 5-drop to search for Firelord, Harbinger of Havoc, and used the remainder of his resource points for Stardust. Zintis recruited Air-Walker, Harbinger of Despair next to Kona Lor in his support row. In combat, Vidi sent Lockjaw and Dewoz into Air-Walker. The attack was legal, and a Relentless Onslaught forced the stun. Stardust attacked Kona Lor, and Zintis played Alien Insurrection for +2 ATK. Vidi chose not to discard, and the characters traded stuns. Finally, Plasma went after Ethan Edwards. Vidi removed the cosmic counter for 2 endurance, then played Barbaric Brawl. Again, both characters traded. In recovery, Zintis had Air-Walker to Vidi’s concealed Lockjaw and Dewoz. Vidi led, 24-23.

“Man!” said Vidi, as he drew for turn 6. “I should have discarded—I drew another 6 and 7.” Zintis recruited Medusa, Queen of the Inhumans in front of Air-Walker and passed. Vidi brought out Firelord and moved all of his characters to the support row. Medusa attacked Firelord, and Vidi responded by discarding a 5-drop to pump him. Zintis pumped with Battleworld, and both characters stunned. Air-Walker attacked directly, and Zintis passed. Vidi gained 2 endurance with The Herald Ordeal, and the turn ended without any further action. Zintis led, 19-12.

Turn 7 was Vidi’s initiative. He recruited Morg, Harbinger of Extinction behind Firelord. Zintis had a 17 ATK / 17 DEF Mar-Vell ◊ Captain Marvel behind Air-Walker. Medusa was left in the front row. Morg attacked Medusa, and Zintis flipped Starforce Strike and used Battleworld. Vidi, who had nothing to stop the stunback, conceded.
