The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Round 2: Shaun Hayward vs. Jeremy Walter
Rob Davis

Shaun Hayward is making quite a name for himself in Vs. System. As a key designer of High Voltage, he must be proud that his deck is all over Brisbane today. However, the New Zealand-based player has abandoned his own creation today to instead focus on what he thinks could be the solution to it—Rigged Elections.

Jeremy Walter is a longtime Yu-Gi-Oh! player who has recently come over to Vs. System. He is playing a new version of X-Men Curve today that focuses on a unique combination of burn and recovery effects. Would his deck cause enough direct damage take Shaun into the negatives before Rigged Elections goes online? Stay tuned and find out!

After winning the die roll (and after a little deliberation as to whether shuffling into six or seven piles is better), Shaun elected to take odds.

Turn 1
Shaun laid a resource and recruited an exhausted Alfred Pennyworth, Faithful Friend. Without a character, Jeremy could only lay a resource and pass.

Endurance
Shaun: 50
Jeremy: 50

Turn 2
Jeremy recruited Shadowcat, Katya into the front row. Shaun's Alfred was exhausted to Bat-Signal for Commissioner Gordon, James Gordon, who he promptly placed behind the 1-drop. Shadowcat swung into Alfred with Feel the Burn. The butler was merely reinforced.

Endurance
Shaun: 46
Jeremy: 50

Turn 3
Shaun played Wild Ride and searched out Micro-Chip before recruiting him into the back row. Two Midnight Sons were then flipped, teaming up Marvel Knights/Gotham Knights and Marvel Knights/Fantastic Four. Alfred went back to the hand and found Shaun a Bat-Signal. Shaun then exhausted the Commissioner to find Invisible Woman, The Invisible Girl, and played her in the front row with her invisibility counter. Jeremy played Nightcrawler, Swashbuckler.

Shaun elected to simply pass his attack step. When Shadowcat attacked the Invisible Woman, she removed her counter and forced Shadowcat's attack to fail.
With no real options, Jeremy sent Nightcrawler into her and passed. Shaun seemed more than happy to simply take the 6, and both players moved on to recovery.

Endurance
Shaun: 39
Jeremy: 50

Turn 4
Jeremy under-dropped with Xorn in the back row. Shaun played Enemy of My Enemy, discarding a GCPD Officer, to put Mr. Fantastic, Reed Richards into his hand. Mr. Fantastic used his ability to look at the top four cards of the deck, but failed to find any equipment. Alfred found Shaun another Bat-Signal. He replayed Alfred, and then used the Invisible Woman to search for another GCPD Officer.

Before combat, Shaun used A Child Named Valeria so that all of his characters were safe for the turn. The Commissioner and the GCPD Officer realized the potential for some rare damage and team-attacked into Nightcrawler. When Jeremy had the pump, Shaun elected to merely let the attack bounce and passed the rest of his attack.

With reinforcement at the ready and no real attack options, Jeremy could only use The Evil Eye with Shadowcat before the players moved into the recovery phase.

Endurance
Shaun: 34
Jeremy: 50

Turn 5
Shaun flipped another Midnight Sons to team up Midnight Sons and Arkham Inmates. He then flipped up the surprising win condition of Rigged Elections. He exhausted Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Commissioner Gordon, GCPD Officer and Micro-Chip to give the ongoing plot twist five counters. Next, he used Alfred to search out a Cosmic Radiation, and then replayed the world's most powerful butler in the front row, exhausted. With Fizzle in hand, Shaun played the Radiation to ready all of his characters, including the essential Alfred. Jeremy could only comment, "I think we're going to run out of counters!" Shaun chuckled and then used the same five characters to gain five more counters,

With his engine online, he was able to replay and activate Alfred three more times, retrieving the three Cosmic Radiations necessary to take Rigged Elections up to 25 counters. And, with that, Shaun Hayward won with Rigged Elections on turn 5—before his opponent could even recruit!
