Tillman won the die roll and chose to take the odd initiatives. He kept, while Nick mulliganed. Tillman had no first turn play, and Nick had Gypsy in the hidden area. On turn 2, Nick led off with Red Tornado, while Tillman had The Wizard. Nick attacked the Tornado into The Wizard and used Magnificent Seven to stun and try to find a 3-drop. Tillman had Zauriel in front of The Wizard on turn 3, while Nick could only muster Justice League Signal Device. Nick took it on the chin, falling behind 46–44.
On turn 4, Nick started off with Membership Drive and recruited Batman, Hidden Crusader in his hidden area. World’s Greatest Heroes teamed up, and Nick passed. Tillman recruited Oliver Queen ◊ Green Arrow, Emerald Archer next to The Wizard in the support row. Zauriel was left in front of The Wizard, and Oliver’s payment power was used to KO Gypsy. Tillman passed back to Nick, and Nick sent Red Tornado into The Wizard. Reform the League powered-up the Tornado, but Tillman had Balance of Power to nullify the attack. Nick had nothing to stop the plot twist and sent Batman into Zauriel for the stun. Tillman attacked back with Oliver into Red Tornado, and then attacked directly. Despite all this attacking, neither player lost a character. The endurance score stood at 37–34 in Tillman’s favor.
Turn 5 was Tillman’s initiative, and he recruited Darkseid, Heart of Darkness in front of The Wizard. Oliver and Zauriel flanked Darkseid in the front row, and Tillman passed his recruit. Nick had Dinah Laurel Lance ◊ Black Canary, Blonde Bombshell in front of Red Tornado. Tillman sent Darkseid into Dinah, and Nick paid a point to Reform the League to stop the stun. Tillman flipped Sinister Citadel and KO’d The Wizard to give him the upper hand. Unfortunately for him, Nick had a power-up and Darkseid was stunned. Tillman had no further attacks, and Dinah attacked back on Oliver. He went down, and Nick went after Zauriel with Batman. Tillman used his ability to recover Darkseid, and Batman readied. Batman went after Darkseid, and Rallying Cry! gave him more than enough ATK. Another Sinister Citadel from Tillman gave Darkseid another counter but didn’t prevent the stun. At the end of the fifth turn, Nick led 30–19.
Nick had the initiative on turn 6 and recruited Hal Jordan, Hard-Traveling Hero in front of Red Tornado. Dinah stayed next to Tornado in the back. Tillman recruited Atlantean Trident to Darkseid, then re-recruited Zauriel beside him and The Wizard in front of him. For his first attack, Nick sent Hal into Darkseid. Tillman exhausted The Wizard to search out Superman, Avatar of Peace with Mysterious Benefactor, then KO’d him to give Darkseid a third +1 ATK / +1 DEF counter. Both characters stunned, and Darkseid received a fourth counter. Dinah went after Zauriel. Tillman powered-up, then used Zauriel’s ability to recover Darkseid. “I am so terrible,” said Nick. “Why didn’t I attack Zauriel first? Maybe if I played correctly once in a while, I wouldn’t be such a constant embarrassment to myself and those around me.” All of Nick’s characters went after the newly-readied Darkseid. He traded for Red Tornado and picked up a fifth counter. Nick still had a lead of 22–9.
Predictably, Tillman’s turn 7 recruit was Superman, Avatar of Peace behind Darkseid. Nick didn’t have a 7-drop and instead recruited Silver Sorceress, Red Tornado, and Elongated Man. All of his visible characters were moved to the support row, and they were arranged as follows from left to right: Elongated Man, Dinah, Tornado, Hal, Silver Sorceress. Tillman’s first attack brought Superman into Hal. Nick had both Counterstrike and a power-up to try for the mutual stun, but Tillman had a power-up of his own. Nick simply reinforced. Tillman attacked Darkseid into the Sorceress, and Nick conceded.
Tillman Bragg wins!
