Welcome to sunny Brisbane!
Well, things sure have changed since $10K Brisbane 2005. This time last year, Curve Sentinels was the deck to beat, Titans came out swinging, and decks were being built on the back of Overload.
Then again, some things never change. While the decks may be different, one thing remains constant from last year—this is still very much a two horse race. Going into this year’s event, players know that Glock and High Voltage will be in full force. They are therefore forced to either play one of the two decks themselves, or to put in the tech to beat them.
However, while this may look like an easy meta to call, there is some real potential for new decks here today. The New Zealanders and Australians are renowned for innovative deckbuilding, with GLEE, Good Guys, Faces of Evil, and High Voltage itself all hailing from Oceanic deckbuilders. Moreover, with the insanely powerful Crisis cards legal in tournament play for the first time, there is an array of new and powerful decks available to deck designers.
Going into the Swiss, if anyone should feel confident, it has to be Siebo's Garden, a team consisting of Kakarot Turker, Matt Barton and Andrew Morris. After taking out last night's Team Sealed in fine form, the team is looking to add additional victories to their record.
