What deck are you playing today?
Avengers Reservist.
What made you decide on this deck, as opposed to a more established archetype?
Because I think people will be playing Null Time Zone, and Teen Titans will go down. This deck is bad against Teen Titans but very good against Sentinels. It’s also pretty immune to Null Time Zone because no one knows what’s in it. Playing this deck was a metagame decision.
What would you consider to be the tech cards in your deck, or what are some unique cards you are playing that really put your deck over the top?
Probably Heroes in Reserve. It’s +5 ATK on both attack and defense—Nasty Surprise and Savage Beatdown in one package. Also, instead of awful leaders like Monica Rambeau, I’m playing Hawkeye. He’s both a leader and a reservist.
What was your runner-up deck choice for this tournament and why?
Longshot/Mutant Nation. I won $10K Chicago with it and it’s the deck that I always run. I really should have played it today. Not playing it has been a little bit of a disaster.
Is Curve Sentinels still the best deck?
Yeah, probably. It’s still the only deck that has a nut draw that people just can’t beat.
What do you anticipate the metagame for Pro Circuit Los Angeles to be like?
I still think there should be a good Doom deck out there with a lot of the new teams. Someone should do well with that. Other than that, there should also be an updated Marvel Knights KO deck. And, of course, a lot of Sentinels.
